Heard a NASTY rumor ... Walmart firearms and related products?

All the people fretting about the business practices of WM need to take a look at the most intellectual treatment of the subject to date. I refer, of course, to South Park.:neener: Here's the short version: 1) WalMart sells cheap things in volume, reducing costs to consumers. -corollary to...

    Convert WASR-10 to an AK-47?

Language is important ("that shoulder thing that goes up"). When I saw the thread title, I had scary flashbacks to sear-job info requests. No big deal, we all learn as we go (I sure have). Converting a low-cap WASR-10 to a high-cap WASR-10 sounds like an interesting project, if you have the...

M44 owners: What recoil pad do you use?

I use the size "small" Pachmayr slip-on, which can be found everywhere. I initially used the size "medium", but it was a loose fit and tended to move around.

    Looking for .22 Rifle

I'll reserve comment on the Marlin 60, since I only have experience with the 10/22. The basic 10/22 carbine, in my experience, is fine for general use (squirrels, cans, paper, etc). For anything beyond that, there are hundreds of products that can be used to upgrade. I have seen amazingly...

Definitely some upside to high ammo prices

I fail to see how rising ammo costs increase range safety awareness. Does having ~$6.00 worth of ammo in an AK mag make the user extra-aware of their muzzle, somehow? Please explain. Expensive ammo does not a safe shooter make. Experienced shooters helping newbies is far more effective.

Does anyone know what type of ammo this is?

The ammo is Argentinian 7.92 (8mm) Mauser, manufatured for Ecuador in 1955. Here is a thread describing this exact same ammo. EDIT: The AA headstamp is listed on the cartridgecollectors.org list as Danish. However, the Danish produced a rimmed 8mm Krag round (see 6th picture down)...

    7.62x54R ammo question...

I also experienced some cracked necks with Bulgarian light ball, but the heavy ball has been fine. Mosins like brass cases.

what size slip on recoil pad for a m38 mosin?

The small Pachmayr slip-on recoil pad works well on my M39, M44, and M91/30. I would bet money it will work on the M38.

    Sensationalize your home!

I have USDA permits to ship infectious agents across state lines (research project), I have signed for "controlled substances" dozens of times (more research), and I have a safe full of milsurps. I also keep my virology textbooks next to my copy of Atlas Shrugged on the bookshelf. Any...

Finn Mosin Price Check Please !!

Based on the date (1944) and the maker (VKT), it is a M39. (source) I would grab any M39 under $200 in a heartbeat. The wood repairs are not a big deal for me, but the bore is. With sharp rifling, $150 is a steal.

    Dud ammo?

What proportion were duds? My totally unscientific guess would be that any more than 5% duds would indicate a post-purchase (storage) problem. I'm not familiar with batch-to-batch variability of Wolf ammo QC, but I do shoot quite a lot of 40+ year-old ammo in my Mosins without issue.

    Dud ammo?

How was the ammo stored? Excessive heat, humidity, or chemical exposure may have inactivated some primers.

    ID these rifles!

I agree that the bolt is open and the picture is not reversed. It also looks like an M44, as the baynet mount is in the right place. However, where is the front sight globe? As far as I know, all Mosin carbines have the round globe. In fact, I don't see any front sight at all, just the...

Gun Owners Against Mini-14 Brass Shirt???

My CZ-52 pistol really wings the brass out hard at about 4 o'clock. I discovered this when I was shooting outside in a field and kept seeing dust puffs in my peripheral vision. They must have been over 25 feet away. Consistent, though...

Moral and Ethical aspects of creating guns?

If you create a weapon that is capable of taking life, you still bear no moral or ethical responsibility for its use by a third party. However, if you build a bomb in your living room and blow up your family accidentally, you are morally and ethically responsible for their deaths...

    7.62x54R Bulgarian...Any Good?

I have about 1500 rounds of heavy ball on hand, plus another 300 light ball. I haven't had any problems with the heavy ball so far (300 fired), but the tin of light ball I shot had neck splits on about 10% of cases after firing. I never noticed any cracks or loose bullets in either batch, so...
