    Custom barrel rifling

Thanks for your responses. He also mentioned over stabilization vs understabilization. The first being that the bullet remains at the angle it was fired from rather than pointing in the direction of travel as it arcs. The second a wobble. It sounds like good theory but in the end it will be...

    Custom barrel rifling

A friend was talking about custom barrels. He said some weatherby barrels are free bore for a short distance before the rifling starts and it increases velocity. He ordered a barrel that has a graduated twist rate, increasing as it goes. I've never heard of either and I'm wondering if any of...

    I want a .22 rifle real bad.

I love my 10/22. It was about $150 three years ago, Big 5 sale, $20 more than the marlin or remington they had. My hand liked her better. The others are probably great too. It is my favorite gun. If it would take large game it would be my ONLY GUN:)I think you cant go wrong with any of them. I...

    .223/5.56 in combat

"I agree with Shvar and the other vets that actually used the weapons in combat. The 5.56 does what it is designed for. I loved the M14 but if I had to hump it with ammo and pack and shoot in a hurry, not so much. Unless the army issued very fast gun bearers, I'd take an M16. If they did issue...

    .223/5.56 in combat

".25-06 runs quite a bit faster with 90-100gr bullets than 2800fps. A .25-06 will throw a 117gr at around 3200fps, so with a 90-100gr bullet I am guessing 3300-3400 is quite possible. While it would shoot nice and flat, and have good on target performance the weapon would be really large for a...

Any thoughts on Chuck Hawks' .243 proposal? http://www.chuckhawks.com/243_service_rifle.htm Just curious.

    .223/5.56 in combat

I guess if were in a fire fight I would be concentrating on the objective and not thinking "gosh I wish I had a .308". American forces aren't suffering defeats and bullet weight probably wouldn't change that if they were. There are some that may have seen both 7.62 and 5.56 in action and I would...

    .223/5.56 in combat

This is a question for those who served or are serving in the millitary. Thank You for protecting Freedom and Hope in the world! I have no millitary experience. I have read claims that the .223/5.56 are not adeqate in some situations or environments. I found this article interesting...

    remington 700 problems?

I've a Rem 700 and a Win 70. I like the tight smooth bolt on the Win 70 better. Everything else I like the rem 700 a little better. I cant decide wich I like overall.

if you could only own one, ar15 or garand?

Is the AR15 strictly .223? Are we comparing the AR platform to the Garand or just the 5.56/.223 AR's? I'm stickin with the Garand either way. Might affect the pole though.

if you could only own one, ar15 or garand?

I voted Garand, though I'd more likely drop my cash on an AR in .308 or .243. Just like if you asked '64 mustang or 2010 mustang I'd vote '64 but more likely be driving the 2010 every day. I want the classy & powerful but I've a weakness for comfortable and modern...... Very cool pole.

What in the Sam Hill did I just buy?

I never knew there were so many chinese models. I bought one eighteen years ago that looked like "E" until I put a scope, bipod and muzle brake on it. Now it looks like a short "C" with a muzle brake.

    Mosin Nagant synthetic stock?

I think anything touching the barrel affects accuracy. The synthetic stocks may improve accuracy this way, but I was discussing other ways to clear the barrel on another thread. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=239644

    7.62x54r

My M38 has an upper handguard thats loose. There's no way to be sure that its not touching the barrel at any time. Unless I secure it with some dowel pins to the stock. Now that the mind is on it, I think I'll rotozip the stock and handguard with a sanding bit to clear the barrel and use little...
