    Desk Ornament!

I have a bunch of holey targets, a B.S. plaque that I was awarded once(now sporting 3, .357-diameter holes) and pics of creatures I've slain on the wall behind my door. I call it my Happy Place.

Would You Go Out Of Your Way . . .

Moot point here. I live in rural Colorado. More are armed than not. I'd say the overwhelming majority of us are armed. Even my flaming liberal brother has a model 94 and a box of 30-30 ammo in his home. It's never been fired, but what the hey, he's armed. That's right, in my family...

    Coyote Killing Contest Prompt Howls

'round here, ya don't have to justify killing coyotes or prairie dogs. I've killed untold numbers of prairie dogs. And never made a dent in their population. Coyotes are targets of opportunity for me. But friends of mine who call them in have told me that nothing blurs the lines between...

Astonish with some of your answers!

Well, since my daughter is only 21 months old, I'd say the bad guy wasn't in my house to begin with. And, boy am I glad!.

Correct me if I am wrong!

The shotgun would, in my opinion, be a much better home defense weapon. The reason is it is much less likely apt to penetrate drywall and cripple or kill those whom you don't intend to shoot. And forget that damned tough-guy pistol grip, it's a wrist breaker.

Reactions of Friends finding out you own/carry a gun?

Her: "Cus they're COPS! They get trained and are allowed to." Me: "I'm trained, I'm allowed to." Her: "But you can't honestly say you're as good with a gun as a Cop." (That's right folks, Cops have special shooter powers, they aren't humans like the rest of us.) That's funny. Last year...

Reactions of Friends finding out you own/carry a gun?

I don't carry. But my wife does. Those few friends that know it know her and knows she carries are cool with it. I guess I don't have any anti-gun friends. Family, is another matter entirely. I have a few family members that would crap if they knew.

“Take a variety to the range…

My question is simply: Why wouldn't you want the most accurate and reliable factory load in your carry piece?

    Your Father?

My dad was a cop, hunter, gunsmith and Hunter Safety instructor when I was growing up. Oh, yeah, we shot. I got the family hand-me-down, a Winchester model 67 to shoot at age eight. That rifle went to my oldest brother's oldest boy, so I went out and bought one for myself a few years back...

Do you belong to the NRA?

"...all you have to do is ask and they wont call you ,, the people calling arnt NRA members,, its a service that gets paid acording to how much money they raise, " I asked twice. The third time, I chewed on the caller. They haven't called back since. I also asked my area rep what I...

If you had $300 to spend........

Definitely a Ruger Security Six. Or a Smith 14, 15 or 19 Or a Colt Trooper. Or.. I dunno. With a toddler in the house, it'll be decades before I have three bills.

Do you belong to the NRA?

I am very proud to say I belong to the NRA. Which did not keep me from chewing ass when they call. I told the broad that if I wanted to speak with someone from the NRA, I'd damn well call my area rep. She then called into question my patriotism. I told her I'd stack my DD-214 up against hers...

    **Favorite Firearms Quote?**

"... carry a 25 if it makes you feel good, but do not ever load it. If you load it you may shoot it. If you shoot it you may hit somebody, and if you hit somebody - and he finds out about it - he may be very angry with you." - Jeff Cooper This is my favorite quote as surely as the 45acp is my...

    Trends from '06 to '07?

AMEN, Texas! I'd love to have a new S&W, but I'm limiting my purchases to older ones without that danged hole in the sideplate.

Arrogance at a local gun shop...

I never realized I had it so good. My local gunshop is a half a block away from my office. It's a small, local shop whose proprietor has steered me away from some bad purchases (in his own shop!) If he has a consignment gun that I want but he thinks is not the right gun for me, he'll outline...

Local shootout and "shooting to wound" debate...

A sage old lawman (my dad) told me clear back in the '60's that you don''t shoot to take a life, you shoot to save a life.

Most Expensive/Cheapest Gun you have owned.

I posted this over in the "Revolver" section... I've got a T-99 Arisaka with chrome-lined bbl that I got for $35.00. To be fair, I've sunk about a hundred into sporterizing it. It's a real shooter, though. As soon as it's finished, I'll have a very accurate deer-elk rifle. The most...

    True Bargain Stories

Got a pristine Security Six for $250 once. Wish I hadn't sold it. The best deal I've gotten so far was a T-99 (7.7 Jap) for $35.00. The stock was all chewed up, so I've been sporterizing it the last few years. I've sunk a total of $75.00 into it and it'll shoot 2" at 100 yards with open...

    Making shot loads for handguns?

I have a bunch of old "American Rifleman" mags from the 60's and 70's. One of the tips I read in one of them for making pistol shotshells recommended using gas checks for shot cups and covers.
