    Shells for Winchester Model 20 - .410

I inherited a Winchester Model 20 single shot .410. Using the serial number, I determined it was manufactured in 1919. There's nothing I can see on the gun stating the length of shell it's chambered for. Any ideas on what length shells I should use? Thanks, Volgunner

.40 recoil snap - any truth?

I was a died-in-the-wool revolver guy (mostly j- and l-frame Smith & Wessons), until last week when I went over to the dark side by acquiring a new G27, gen3. While I rented a lot of 9 mm's in the process of deciding on the G27, I'm really learning on the 40 cal platform, and, so far, it's...

Just picked up my first reloading steup... Tips?

I've not acquired equipment yet, but I've been investigating getting into reloading for about six weeks or so. In addition to having read Lyman's #49 manual, I also purchased and read the latest edition of the Speer manual. The latter seemed to have a little more detailed information, at...

New guy question re: type of press for beginner

Thanks for the input Thanks to all of you for taking the time to send your ideas. Lots of good info to think about. The most important "take away" seems to be to concentrate on getting the charge right regardless of what type press/die is used. I'm going to order a couple of reloading...

New guy question re: type of press for beginner

Began shooting handguns three years ago and currently own S&W 686 and 642. Do not currently own any centerfire rifles, and don't have much interest in acquiring them. I'd like to start reloading and have been doing a considerable amount of reading here and on other sites. I think I...

Recoil of SA Ruger .44 magnums

Thanks for the input, guys. I'm pretty convinced about the .44 magnum, but still thinking about SA v. DA/SA. I need to rent a Super Blackhawk and see how that goes. Regards to all, Russell

Recoil of SA Ruger .44 magnums

Shot my first .44 magnum Saturday. Rented a S&W 629 4" (with standard Hogue grips) and put 20 rounds through it at the range. Wow! That got me to thinking I might kill two birds with one stone: get a Ruger SA, but get it chambered in .44 magnum rather than .357 like I had earlier thought...

    How do I . . .

remove the stock Hogue grip on my 686+? I ran the screw in the bottom out and thought it would just slip off. It didn't. What's the trick? thx

    Your favorite S&W 357?

    4" 686. Nuff said.

I notice now most of us older guys (50+)

57 years young, here, and I started shooting about 2 years ago when I purchased a S&W 686+, 4" barrel. Later I acquired a 642, which drops nicely in the pocket, but I still prefer shooting the 686 if I have the choice. I've rented a number of semi-automatics, and they're fun to shoot -- when...

    Colt DA Revolvers

Thanks for the replies, guys. Sounds like a mixed bag, but I'm inclined to go take a closer look at the Detective Special currently at the pawn shop. Regards, Russell

    Colt DA Revolvers

I'm relatively new to handguns. I purchased my first revolver, a S&W 686+ 4", two years ago, and a S&W 642 last year, both new. I'm thinking about branching out and acquiring a Colt revolver, possibly a Detective Special. Two questions: First, what attributes of the Colt line do you...

    Tell me about your 686+

I've had a 686+ 4" for two years. It was my first revolver (I now have a 642, too), and I've been very pleased with the 686. I've never wanted a six-shooter in lieu of the extra-round capacity. Regards, Russell

    Timing question

Goodtime: You hit the nail on the head. I'm in Knoxville and Robertson's is in W. TN. I'd really like to get over there to look at their stock. Thanks for the heads up, Russell
