Do you guys mount your own scopes?

My LGS will mount and bore sight a scope for 5 bucks. Buy the scope from him or a regular customer he does not charge. Most of the time it depends on your attitude if you pay or not if a newbie.

My favorite 357 All Steel Revolver

I feel left out of the question. :D My very favorite is a 3 screw BlackHawk but it has an aluminum grip frame so doesn't fit the criteria. I have a Smith model 19 that is all steel but it ain't my favorite. All things considered it's a great gun but not as likable as the Ruger is to me.

Do you guys mount your own scopes?

I mounted my first scope when I was 14 years old and every one since. No special tools used except for a line up bar to check the rings with. Some have needed some lapping, others haven't. It is a really a simple job compared to a lot of others.

    Largest caliber you own?

Set a 50-140-550 beside those and it will make both look a little puny. Many years ago I bought a re-pro rolling block in that caliber just because I wanted it. I had no intention of hunting anything with it and never have. Several years ago I down sized it to 50-70 after having my right...

I needed another old .22 like a hole in the head....

I can always find room for another old 22, handgun or rifle. Some where in the '70-'71'year range I sporterized a Krag for a friend. It was mostly just replacing the stock and I put a nice finish on it. We went to a caliche pit that had some big boulders around the top for him to shoot it. He...

    Mare's leg type guns- why?

I watched and liked the "Wanted Dead Or Alive" TV show and the mare's leg struck me as gimmick from the get-go. Let's just say I was a Steve McOueen fan, no matter the type of role he was playing. Who would put up with carrying such a heavy and clunky thing? An actor is who trying to attract...

You've Come a Long Way, Baby...

I was around when the show originally aired. For some reason I didn't care for Hugh O'Brian in any part I ever saw him play so I didn't watch that show. I agree that firearms discipline has changed greatly from that era.

Happy Birthday to the Late Skeeter Skelton

After Skeeter left us I read some of Bart's stories but he just didn't quite come up to his father's skill with the written word IMO.

    Loading 5 in a revolver

Hmm, just found out I'm a twit in post #44. I shoot only at my gunclub range about 98 % of the time now and only load five in any handgun to keep the rows in the cartridge boxes even. I suppose that doing that with semi-autos make me a double twit. I don't give one hoot what anyone thinks about...

    Thompson Center Arms SOLD

A long as you are OK with a thumb hole stock Haus Of Arms has a wide selection. I have the walnut version and really like it. It's perfect for a scope IMO. Strange thing is I have an Encore and the standard factory stock works great with a scope. SSK did Marty kind of dirty with the Contender...

    So, what's too heavy?

Mine is arthritis. I have something like 50% of normal movement in my right elbow and a little more in the left. You DO NOT want to do anything that causes more flex. After getting your breath back you will use it up saying bad words for awhile.

jacketed rounds in a Ruger old army

Ruger stated that it couldn't/can't be overloaded using black powder and I have tested that with 4f and round balls. Lot's of white smoke and cracks instead of booms. I wouldn't ever consider loading it with smokeless powder even in cartridges. I bought mine because it was supposed to be the top...

Which bolt action .22 LR rifle would you recommend for accuracy from a bench or in the field?

I bought one of the early Savage MK II rifles that came with the then new accu-trigger. It has the long receiver with the recoil lug. After trying one Boyd stock that I didn't care for the way it felt and even after 2 modification still didn't I built my own stock from scratch. Epoxy bedding...

    What's wrong with this picture?

The first thing I noticed was the Dr. Pepper. 😃 I can't see a trigger on the revolver but maybe those old timee eye-tilian cowboys slip hammered their guns. It was a cheesey movie so why should the guns differ from everything else.

    how much is too much?

If you bought a gun for $300 in 2914 you would have to get $394 today just to break even. I used a low number to keep from becoming confused. I am only going to read for a while now as I'm tired of correcting my typing mistakes. My fingers are not wanting to do what my mind is telling them to.

    Mark type Rugers

Even with an oxy and a muscle relaxer under my belt I'm not too fuzzy to have missed that. They sure are playing hob with my typing though. My fingers don't want to go where they are aimed although I only made 5 mistakes in that last sentence and my spelling skills are not so hot either.

how did it start for you?

My wife told me that her father would gather up his house full of kids and go rabbit hunting on Sunday afternoons. With 10 kids he needed all the protein he could get get I suppose. Then he got tularemia and after recovering that ended rabbit hunting. She was about 6 years old when this...

how did it start for you?

I grew up as a little clod hopper, other wise known as a farm kid. Our farm butted up in a corner where 2 ranchs were divided by a barb wire fence. Their combined acreage was 153 sections so shooting was pretty safe. I might or might not have trespassed over there a couple of times. My dad let...

    Gun stuff

Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone. They came in to get me up and walk but a short look over and they decided to put it off until Saturday. I suppose the geezer was looking poorly. to them. Dr. checked on me Saturday after walking was done and came back Sunday to tell me I was looking...

    Getting back to shooting

The deed was done Friday morning and frankly I don't have any urge to shoot at all at this point in time. The thing is seriously tender and doesn't work well at all. Time will make a change and I have been assured it will do it's job painlessly before very long. Then I can go to the range with...
