Ordinary Clays through a powder measure

3.6 grains of Clays gently pushes plated 200 grain SWC's for my Smith 625. My Dillon powder measure is very consistant with this load. I've weighed 20 in a row. 3.6 +/- the width of the line on my scale. I estimate that to be +/-.05 grains.

S&W vs Colt Double Action Revolvers

Smith & Wesson revolvers are my preference, mostly by default. There are a bunch available at fairly reasonable prices. Colt revolvers are rare in my neck of the woods. The only Colt revolver I've shot is a friend's Python. Frankly, my 686-3 has a better trigger and finish.

List of Advantages of Revolvers + rant

I own 12 revolvers and 4 semi's. I shoot a couple thousand rounds a month, mostly revolvers (only DA, more accurate for me). I "play games", revolver and semi. I shoot both well, under pressure. I carry a semi. Comparably sized/weighted revolvers (j-frame snubs) are too hard to shoot well...

Left Handed AR - Should I?

All of my bolt rifles are lefty. None of my AR's or other semi-auto rifles are. I've never had an issue with non-left semi's (except for a Tommy Gun, but that's another tale.) ejection, gas, or other material exiting the gun. Bolt guns are another issue. I have to come off the stock to operate...

Oops, just noticed this was a revolver ammo question. Never mind.

Centerfire Rifle you shoot the most?

AR whatever upper? AR or 308? How about AR-10? I love that gun. .308 and lots of it!

    Plated 40 cal SWC's?

Thanks for the link. I could not find the 40 cal plated Semi Wad Cutters. Somebody's gotta have 'em.

    Plated 40 cal SWC's?

I'm looking for PLATED, 40 cal SWC bullets. 155 gr or 165 gr preferred. I've seen 'em loaded in LE practice ammo. So I know they existed at some point. Plated only. Lead is not allowed at the range I'm loading for and I know where I can find them. Again, plated only. Thanks Phil

    advice on using HKS speedloaders

This is a defensive gun, right? You need to practice reloading until it becomes second nature. If possible, do it under stress, ie. use a timer, have a buddy yell at you, whatever. The main thing is practice until you can do it in the dark every time you attempt it. I like the idea of dummy...

Bicycle Guns for the Third Millenium

Mec - a most excellent photo essay! That mountain gun is beautiful. I biked to work for many years and had many problems with motorists. Wished I had been armed more than once. Never had problems with with peds. Generally out ran dogs. I had one dog who used to wait for me. He would run along...

    Speed six shooting high

Tony - you need to send your Speed Six to me. I'll thoroughly study the issue, collecting lots of data along the way. I estimate it will take about 2 years to complete this study. But seriously . . . Does it shoot high for others? When you aim for the neck to make head shots, what range are we...

    Tumbler on the Cheap

Hey Dan - I'll have to try the kid powered tumbler. May be awhile, though. They're still "playing" with that 5 gallon washing machine!

Oklahoma: 12 fired from Weyerhaeuser for guns in cars

A few related and random comments: FWIW - Here in Oregon, Weyerhaeuser lets you hunt on their timber lands. They close said lands when fire danger is high. Knowing how crazy it can be in the woods, I would guess most logging-contractor employees are armed. A reminder of what a corporation...

Part Failures & Realability Of Semiautos

Broke an extractor in a Witness 45. Did it to myself. Single loaded cartridges in the barrel and dropped the slide on 'em. :banghead: No parts failures on a CZ75B 9mm with over 10K rounds. No parts failures a Glock 19 with 6K rounds or a Glock 22 with over 10K rounds.

Why are Pythons worth double the $$$ of a Smith?

I haven't purchased a new gun in years. Generally can't afford it. The few Colts I've seen are priced beyond my means. A good friend has an older Python. Frankly, except for finish, my Smith 686 is a better gun.

Wal-Mart To Begin Prohibiting Concealed Carry?

Walmarts in Eugene, Oregon seem to have no issue with CCW. A young woman at one of 'em is surprised when you buy only 2 boxes of pistol ammo. "Is that all your getting?!?" I'll shop there anytime. Yeah, a bunch of their stuff is made in China, but hey, I work for a Korean semiconductor company...

    Throat diameter vs. bore diameter

Sounds like I need to mike the throats and look for appropriate bullets. The gun is new to me and while I like shooting it, my targets seem to be "patterned" instead of "grouped". I guess I'll have to do some more loading and shooting. Darn. Thanks for your help.

An armed society really is a polite society

Rabbi, I think the age thing has more to do with being "assertive". I've noticed the same in myself. I'm more likely to be upfront with people in more situations. It has to do with experience and self-knowledge. You have enough experience to sort through the BS. You know what is important and...

Slate.com writer well on her way to being pro-gun.

I'm a fan of NPR. I like "Talk of the Nation", "Fresh Air", and the news shows. I agree with Chipperman.

    Throat diameter vs. bore diameter

Which is more critical to accuracy and why? Does type of bullet (lead vs jacketed) make a difference? I'm asking because I have a Smith Model 25 in .45 Colt. A .451 bullet passes easily through the throats.
