    High Power question

When addressing a rules question, it's important to read through the rule book and not assume that you know the answer. Case in point; To address the initial question, I just "KNEW" it had to be 5 and 5 for "Match Rifle" and 2 and 8 for "Service Rifle"...Right? Wrong!...as 10.1.7 shows...

    High Power question

The latest NRA Highpower Rules I have are dated 2003; 10.1.7 Rapid Fire Loading Procedure-After the command Load, all rifles conforming to Rule 3. 1.1 and 3.1.2 will be loaded with 2 rounds in the magazine. Rifles conforming to 3.3 will load 5 rounds. Bolts will be left open with no round...

after market rear sight for Springfield 1903A3

I'm not a Springfield man, so please forgive me if I'm off base... ...but does this help you? It's a copy of the old PJ O'Hare sight micrometer being remade by Ray-Vin. http://ray-vin.com/

    Best AR-15 for High Power

lycanthrope, ...my bad. FWIW, while the tuned RRA is the best "value" in triggers and I like mine far more than I like my Jewell...John is recommending that if you can afford the extra cost, the Geissele trigger is the one to get.

    Best AR-15 for High Power

John hasn't offered the "tuned RRA Upper" for a couple of years now. There were some QC issues and this prompted him to try to put together his own value package. It ended up costing a bit more, but also gave better quality in certain key areas than the RRA NM.

    Best AR-15 for High Power

The folks that are winning are shooting White Oak. That's about as clear cut as I've seen.

    Best AR-15 for High Power

It's not hard for manufacturers to put the needed so-called NM parts together and have a half decent Match AR. Where the difference lays in in the details and in the odds. I've seen a bunch of big maker Match AR's out there now. Many are fine, but I've seen more than my share of those with...

    budget Service rifle upper?

Jon, I had tried to post a response twice now with the posts somehow not going through. Good thing because I like yours better... I was going to point detritus to some of the "cheaper" DCM/CMP Uppers...but in the end, if he sticks with the sport, they'd probably end up costing him more money...

    off the wall AR question

Detritus, Disclaimer; I'm assuming High Power Silhouette is shooting same targets/distances as Metallic Silhouette. ie Rams at 500M, Turkey's at 385M etc? I'm told that the 7BR is right on the edge of being able to knock down rams reliably...probably on the "not" side of the edge. The...

AR Match triggers (and a question on uppers)

There's a few things I just realized I omitted... 1) I don't do 3-gun or other "go fast" games...thus if it wasn't apparent from my intro, my comments pertained to Service Rifle. lycanthorpe, thanks for filling in my blanks. 2) I omitted the Jewell trigger. I have one and I've played with...

AR Match triggers (and a question on uppers)

Detritus, There's a lot of good advice here, some of it contradictory...so I thought I'd throw in my 2cents worth as well. First off...introductions. I'm a Highpower Service Rifle competitor and a self admitted Trigger freak. Now the advice. For Highpower most prefer a 2 stage trigger...

What is the 30 caliber rule in highpower

Steve, That article written by Gooch was my contribution to the "discussion", but it was not the "former MTU shooter I was referencing. And when brought up, the article was summarily discounted by the "Highpower has not value" poster as invalid because Gooch had no combat experience...

What is the 30 caliber rule in highpower

Here's an article with commentary that could give a much better account of the history behind the sport than I ever could; http://www.jouster.com/articles30m1/wayitwas.html Today I think that Highpower Rifle means different things to different folks. Whether it continues to have relevance...

What is the 30 caliber rule in highpower

Steve, We're actually in closer agreement regarding the 30 Cal Rule than you think. I thought the center of the hold was the best measure of skills. I also thought the practicalities of needing only one plug in the pits was a good thing. I didn't agree with the need for a change, but it's...

What is the 30 caliber rule in highpower

Steve, First of all, I don't get here nearly enough, I know...and I don't have much to offer the IDPA, 3-gun etc folk. If I see something HP related at the top and I can offer something, I do (this weekend I also posted on M14 Flash Suppressors). And stuff at the top is generally stuff that's...

What is the 30 caliber rule in highpower

Well, let's see...it depends on who "em" is and during what match you might be speaking of, but I have records for only a few with knowlege of who was shooting what. If "em" means M14/M1A shooters in general then here's some info. 2003 NTI O'Connell was shooting an M1A that year I believe...

What is the 30 caliber rule in highpower

Steve, I'm not disagreeing with you regarding the gist of your content, but I do want to straighten out the terminology and some of the finer points. The "30 Caliber Rule" is the way it was previously...as Jon says, all shots get plugged with a 30 Caliber gauge. The rule change REMOVED the...

Cracked M14 flash hider. Accuracy loss?

A cracked Flash Supressor can definitely affect accuracy. I can't quantify it off the top of my head, but I've seen off call shots at 200, 300 AND 600 yards traced to a cracked FS. Typically what I see happening is they will gas cut at the ends of the slots. The gas cutting creates a point in...

    Scope base: 1-piece or 2-piece?

I haven't found the one piece Ray-Vin to be any more rigid than the segmented Giraud or Ewing rods. If anything the Ray-Vin suffered from more movement (from other causes in the head/rod clamping arrangement - that he has since fixed). The weight difference is truly marginal, but when you're...
