Jumping into the world of 17AH. If I use an extended shell holder, will I be able to use a 17 Fireball neck bushing die with the correct size bushing to size the necks of the 17AH? Will there be problems due to the difference in should angle and body diameter? I have the 22 to 20/20 to 17...
When my grandfather passed his guns down to me they came with the shells he had at the time. My most prized possession, his 16 ga 53 Belgium browning A-5, came with several boxes of old purple federal paper and plastic shotshells. Those are what I learned to shotgun with and so they always...
I have had that issue with 45 ACP aguila brass when using the #1 shellplate instead of the recommended #45 shellplate. I would check the rim thickness. There was just enough wiggle room for the brass to be able to move to too much on the down stoke causing to to hang up as the shellplate...
I use plastic ammo boxes for some of my reloads, the smaller amounts of specialty ammo. For my bulk stuff I keep them in plastic coffee containors I get from work.
My job was BRAC'd from VA to Aberdeen, MD 2 years ago. I chose to live in PA and drive. Depending on where your job is in MD, PA might be closer than you think. I live in Delta, Pa and the back entrance to my neighborhood is practically MD. I also belong to DPBFNG and shoot over at SLCFSA...
I hunt with an inline and shoot BP shot shells in SASS but this is my first time out with cap and ball. I decided this year at one of the clubs I shoot at I wanted to shoot Frontiersman. The quest started last October and ended today on my first range trip. I acquired a Spencer Carbine in 45...
I do not really limit my calibers anymore, I just have them for certain uses. My CAS guns (2 revolvers and a rifle) are all the same caliber because is it easier at the matches to only have one type of ammo. For my hunting guns it is what ever caliber suits me for the game I am going after. I...
Phantom,
You should hop on over to CASCITY or the Single Action Shooters Society forums and lurk a bit. The SASS page has a list of local clubs by state. I recommend you just go to a shoot, watch and ask questions. Most clubs I have been to are very welcoming and someone was always...
Drcook,
Have you tried the magtech brass 16ga shells? They are 2.5 inch and use large pistol primers. I use the 12ga ones for my black powder 12ga loads.
Jim
I reload all "pistol" calibers even though I use some of them in rifles. 45 Colt, 45 Schofield, 45 ACP and 38 special. I also load 12 ga brass shells which use pistol primers. The reloading set up has alread paid for itself in savings on 45 colt alone.
Question on the effects of brass being two short. The normal 45 colt case max length is 1.285, with a trim length of 1.275. Hornady 45 colt leverevolution bullets are loaded with a 225 gr FTX that requires the cases to be trimmed to 1.215. I reload 45 colt for CAS on a hornady L-N-L AP using...
The best place that I have found to get 45 Colt online is Georgia Arms. I have shot a couple thousand of their 45 Colt and it has always went bang.
Before I moved space for reloading was an issue for me as well. I reload 45 Colt now. As far as components the best place to find lead...
When I lived in Woodbridge I did transfers with Virginia Arms in Manassas until they changed their policy and would not accept transfers from non FFLs. I see their website is under construction but might want to call and ask if the policy has changed back or not. I also bought several guns...
I only sell or trade guns to fund or get other guns. My interests in different types of guns tends to change over time. Right now I am on a cowboy gun kick and thats what I am mainly getting and interested in shooting. Several years ago it was combo guns, I collected a lot but now have mostly...
I have had very good luck with zastava doubles. I have 2, not the prettiest girls in my safe but they work like dogs for me. They do well on the wobble trap range and take down squirrels and rabbit just fine. They both were under $200.00.
