To all EMS workers: Paramedics and EMT's

Policy is that it's PD's job to deal with weapons. Reality is that we do what makes sense (e.g. safe weapons or turn a blind eye as appropriate).

    Spotted ANOTHER 30.06 sign.... ***sigh***

Not entirely true. It says that posting the 10.06 sign is considered 'providing notice'. Therefore, if the sign is posted and you don't leave, you are already in violation. It says you received notice if the owner provides notice by oral or written communication, and that the sign is...

Hearing for New York State Pistol License

Also, even if you are unrestricted, you can't carry at in within the New York City limits. You need to have a NYC permit to carry in NYC.

Heller and open carry in NY

State law makes no distinction between a license to own and a license to carry, the only difference is administrative, i.e. the rules that NYC made up. People with premise permits who were arrested for concealed carry have been acquitted of criminal charges on these grounds, but I wouldn't try...

Gun ranges in NJ or PA?

I don't think you can rent guns in NJ unless you have a FOID or whatever it's called there.

First-time buyer: New York City laws & places to buy.

The NYPD recently put the application form up on their website. You used to have to go in person to 1PP to get an application, so this is a good thing. http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/permits/handgun_licensing_application.shtml

Which of these 1911s have you had problems with?

This poll is pretty meaningless, because it doesn't ask how many people have without problems. For example, if out of 1000 from company A, 10 had problems, but out of 30 from company B, 5 had problems, it would appear that the company A is worse, even though it has a much lower problem rate.

    criminals gone wild dvd

I wonder if any of these reporters actually watched the DVD. It's so obviously staged it's painful. Then again, a staged crime isn't news (aka entertainment) so they wouldn't mention that fact.

Pharmacists are among the "special class" that can get a NY CCW permit.

Hope noone robs them during the 9 to 12 months it takes the NYPD to process the application.

    Medical concerns and shooting

Part of what you're paying your doctor for is his medical advice. If your doctor can't find the time to answer your medical questions maybe you need to find another one.

Opinion: NYPD creating an additional endorsement for CCW?

Isn't that already legal based on the FOPA "safe passage" law?

Rudy Claims Evolution On Gun Rights

You have a right to defend yourself, unless you live in New York. If you live in NY you might be granted the right to defend yourself only if you pay them $500, submit to investigation, and wait a year or so.

    Indiana Silliness

I take it you've never seen a kid in anaphylactic shock. These kids can die very quickly if exposed to even a very small amount of peanut. A lot of schools in many states are peanut free or have peanut free zones.

    Disturbing New York City trend.

In addition to the $439, you have to appear in person at 1 Police Plaza in Manhattan a total of 5 separate times (get an application, submit the app, go for an interview, pick up your permit, bring your purchased firearm for inspection) during work hours. You also have to give them a list of...

    Always de-escalate the situation????

This almost always works. I get in situations a lot, and apologizing, even if you're right, will usually de-escalate. People are shocked when you apologize, I've had people just stare at me with their mouth open when I apologize. It's not worth stroking your ego by arguing and yelling, just...
