Just bought my first neck sizing die. This is safe if the brass has already been fired in it's designated rifle, right? Also, should I be "partial neck sizing" by turning the die back a turn off the shell holder? Pros and cons?
What is your case prep routine for once fired brass bought as factory cartridges? Do you trim it if it's already under max length? Do you bevel the case mouth if you skipped trimming?
I'm loading rifle cartridges for the first time for my .30-06.Someone told me that to figure out how deep to seat the bullet you should make a dummy cartridge and leave it long. Then close it in the action of your rifle and let the lands push the bullet in. Measure that and subtract .003 or .004...
Thanks for the replies. I have a couple sets of Esmerelda's but I thought she only worked with wood, not horn. Worth a call though. I may just take CWL's advice and try to cut and finish my own. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
