Out of all the recommendations here I've used all with out any issues, except CM. I think I'll get a few to see how they work. Funny this thread came up I just got in the mail 3 Tripp Research Super 7 upgrade kits just in case I need them.

I choose "Used with just some new springs." But like other mentioned as long as they pass my personal test, I'll carry it. I just got a SA RO 1911, used. I'm replacing the firing pin and spring. If she goes thru a session with no issues I'll carry her. I also just got a new Taurus PT1911 SS...
I have had 2 Rock's and they both shot great. I just sold my Firestorm DLX. One of the best trouble free 1911's I've ever owned. This was NOT a drama queen 1911.

I’ll be picking up my AR-15, which has a rail on the upper receiver and gas block. No sights. For the type of shooting I’ll be doing which would be range shooting up to 200 yards. What would be a good sight set up, to 100 yards and a scope out to 200 yards? Any recommendations would be...
.45 All steel full size Witness, by far the best gun I've owned. No drama at all, it can still out shot me. And it was not a picky eater at all. I got mine from reedsammo. Best bang for buck out there. IMHO
Go here for my first time review...
Also as a side note, what ever gun he pick, he might want to make sure it's already broken in. Some guns need a few round thru them before they settle in. I don't think he wants to be in class with a virgin pistol. I'm partial th 1911's. Tha's what I care CCW.
Flawless shooter, ZERO problems with it. Go here http://www.shootiniron.com/PHOTOS.html in the photos mine is only Witness there. You won't be disppointed
For softer recoil, you could go to a 18.5 lb recoil spring. They come with a 16lb spring. Go to http://www.gunsprings.com/SemiAuto/ColtNF.html#1911Recoil . Make sure you read the instructions and do a proper removal and reinstallation. I just put one in my RIA .45 Tactical. Enjoy.
FWIW...
What are parts avalability going to be like? I've e-mail gun source about 2 months ago and they had them in stock. Who's goingto carry them? Would I have to wait for them to come by boat from Turkey? or be charged (alot) air frieght?
I would look else where for a bi pod, also have you been here? Alot of good info. http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=51 ;) Also a scope is on the list for my son, I'm still looking
I got my son one about 4 weeks ago. What I have learned.
1. it is very easy to over lube. It was recommended that I use moly dry rather than oil. I had a ass load of jams, nothing on the first 8 mags shot fine but the last 6 were terrible. SO when I got it home I can see that over lubing it...
