    tree stand/ladder

I agree that you do not want to be lugging around a ladder stand everytime you go in and out of the woods. I use them all the time, and other than occasionally moving a couple of them, they stay in the same place year round. One thing you might try is a set of climbing sticks that come in 3 or...

    Tasty old goat meat?

The boys I grew up hunting with all killed deer one year except for one guy who always got something-but not that year. He was so tore up about everyone knowing he didn't get a deer that he killed a goat, skinned it and hung it up on the pole, and told everyone it was a doe. You couldn't tell...

    justifiable poaching?

I voted yes like many others if the situation was life one of survival. I lived for almost 9 years in a cabin back in the wilderness in my 20's, and though I worked for a living there was one time when I lost my job and had no income for over a month. Still, I did not kill any animals to eat...

    Man kills Cow

Sounds like a good Christmas present to give him this year. :D If you wait until he isn't so sensitive about it, you might be waiting a loooooong time. ;)

Shooting a cow is bad, but what about breaking copyright laws? :uhoh:

Pictures of My Ruger Hunting Rig

Hey JesseL, I am presently using a Kolphin holster with a strap on it that I wear like a bandolier. The holster isn't made for a scope, so I cut a slit in the front to accomodate the red dot scope. It works fairly well, but I am planning to get an Uncle Mike's bandolier holster that is made...

    Hostile bear encounter WWYD?

You can always put your head between your legs and kiss your butt goodbye! What I'd do is wake up Charlie. Who is Charley? He is my hunting/camping buddy. Why wake him up? So he can see what is eating us for dinner!

Pictures of My Ruger Hunting Rig

I just installed my Bushnell Trophy Red Dot Scope on my .41 magnum Ruger the other day. Yesterday was our last day of gun season and I got to shoot at my first deer with it. Missed! :o I hit a little sapling I didn't notice and I guess it threw the bullet off course. Anyway, I love this...

    Great Hunting Season

This has been one of the most enjoyable hunting seasons I've had in years. Even though I wasn't able to get out as much as I usually do because of technical difficulties with my old body, I've had a lot of fun. I'm not sure what was different for me. It wasn't actually much different than...

    overkill and ethical hunting?

Would I be correct in guessing your philosophical friends are teenagers? Humane killing and meat loss isn't even in the same category. Dead is dead. Making them dead with the least amount of suffereing is humane. Obliterating them with something like a bazooka, grenade or land mine...

    Wow, that was fun

Sounds like a blast, MCgunner. I have bow hunted a couple times for hogs. Still hunted them once in Georgia, and from a stand in Oklahoma. Never got one, but it was exciting. Especially the Ga. hunt. Saw bunches of hogs and even some fights. I just couldn't get the right shot. Taking a...

    Rifle on Turkey?

I shot one gobbler through the neck with a .270, and two others with .22 magnum in the body with very little meat damage. Rifles are legal to hunt turkey in Virginia.

    Proud Dad, son's first deer

I would not have let my kid shoot that deer. I would have knocked him out of the way and shot it myself! :D Just kidding. Congratulations to you both! Out of curiosity, what are going prices for a shoulder mount in Pennsylvania?

    your "workhorse" rifle

Marlin 336 30/30. Killed my first deer with it around 1980, and have taken my latest two deer (a 9 point and a doe) this year with the same gun. It has been dropped, scratched and knicked. I even use it as a cane on steep terrain! But it shoots darn good, and has taken a lot of deer. I've...

    A couple of nice racks

I finally got the pictures to work. Don't know why they wouldn't before, and I apologize for mishap. :)

    Is a 4 point a trophy?

Webster defines trophy as: "1. Anything taken in war, hunting, competition etc. especially when preserved as a momento; prize, spoil or award." So if a man kills an enemy in war and takes his knife as a trophy, it is just as much a trophy as the man who took a rifle. A third place winner...

    A couple of nice racks

A couple of nice racks. I finallly got the pictures to work. Here are two deer customers brought in for me to mount. The wide one has a 24 1/2 inche inside spread, and the other is a 17 pointer with a drop tine. Wish I'd get a look at one like those!

Going on Safari in Namibia, May-June 2008 - anyone want to tag along?

DON'T DO IT! It is a trick! The good "doctor" is just trying to get unsuspecting people for experiments. Oh, you get to hunt alright, and after you take that baboon, they graft the tail on your butt! :D

    Is a 4 point a trophy?

I get all kinds brought into my taxidermy shop. I've mounted all size racks. Even the people with the spikes are proud of their accomplishment, and to be honest, I'm tickled to see the shine in their eyes as they tell their story. Everyone has a different view of what makes a trophy, and you...
