Early S&W stainless parts were hard chromed. I do have a color cased hammer & trigger for a K-frame Smith so PM me and I may even have a "Stainless" set as well. .
Check with Diamond Gunsmithing in Ithaca NY and he could do the work. I have had him lash up a couple of barrels for me on my 1949 M37 with first rate work.
I had a Witness Protection 870 with a 12 1/2" barrel, classified as an any other weapon on a $5 stamp. Very handy for getting in close for under cover drug busts but tiresome during training. A very big and impressive surprise when the WP was produced from beneath a coat.
Douse it out with brake cleaner (remove all plastic grips first) and clean under the extractor. The see if the cylinder turns freely when open (if not dried grease in the cylinder around the yoke) and if so then lube with breakfree.
What you have is a common way of fitting the bushing to the barrel so it can tip when the slide unlocks in recoil but is tight when the slide is closed.
If you have any specific questions i shot Second Chance 15+ years and was a master Blaster for both HG and LG. Basically the distance is 25' from the row of pins and thay are 3' from the back edge. The 9 pin event they were 1' from the back edge. Have loads of fun.
I buy the new Smiths, take them home and in 6-7 minutes the tab on the lock is ground off, revolver reassembled and am in action. I don't sell my revolvers and don't plan on swallowing a stupid key.
I went to Second Chance for 15-16 years and loved every year. The key is put the front sight in the middle of the pin, press the trigger and move to the next pin. Many people look at the pin move to the next one while pulling the trigger:-) Glad it worked out for all.
I have an old model 15 (basically the same) that I have had for decades, shot PPC with it with a heavy barrel, put the original barrel back on it and absolutely love it. BTW I shoot only double action and removed the hammer spur a very long time ago. A true classic and what a revolver should be.
I have Deerslayer (made in 1949) and an 870 Wingmaster (both w/ multiple barrels). I would take the M37 afield due to usual foul weather and bottom eject for the Ithaca minimizing slush & debris in the action.
I have done 2 3/4 # triggers with all the paqrts but would advise against a 2# trigger unless one has an expert or master card in IPSC and the pistol is used only for competition.
