Some shooters dye their brass. Some just simply take a color sharpie and draw a line across the bottom of the brass.
This way you can identify the ones you've picked up. There use to be a muti-color device that allowed you to draw color bands around the case in your combination of colors.
I personally think of all matches as a "lost brass" match. I can obtain free brass now and then to supplement what I have to buy, so it works out.
9, 40, 45 and 223 are plentiful and reasonably priced.
