That's true I don't want to shoot "Dear". I'd rather get da 30-point buck (a Wisconsin joke of sorts). R.C. sorry for the deja vu. I won't do it again.
Thanks for the help. Sorry for the dual post. I'll be better next time. My "Frankenstein" is indeed a m1917. I call it Frankenstein because it is one ugly bubba and because half of the parts are stamped with "E" and the other half with "W"
I have an frankenstein 1917 that I plan on using for gun deer season this coming weekend here in Wisconsin. I went out to the range this past weekend and sighted it in. When I got home I thought I noticed a crack on the stock and so took the action off for a closer examination (it was a nasty...

GeorgeR - I thought maybe some cold blue would do the trick. I actually am very impressed with the rest of the rifle. So I do need to give whoever did it credit. It looks nice.
rcmodel - Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out.
Ok I made a post on August 12 (this year) asking whether or not Gander screwed up parkerizing my p17 bubba. The answer was a resounding yes so I went back to the store and they agreed with the assesment given here and redid the job at no cost (which is what they should have done since the error...
Thanks Paul. I went to Gander today and showed the firearms manager what happened and he is going to make amends. I'll wait till it's all said and done to post what the results are. I appreciate your feedback.
Quick question for the knowledgeable ones out there. I just had my M1917 (I already know its ugly bubba) parkerized and I've noticed there seems to be a few spots where the finish isn't present or as thick, so to speak, as it is on the rest of the rifle. I've attached photos to hopefully show...
krag, nothing's wrong with the barrel. Sorry if it came off that way. The old barrel had problems a plenty, but I've shot with the new one and there hasn't been a problem other than that it isn't finished yet and I don't want it to rust.
Premium,
I'm not going to get rid of the rear sight forever. I don't much about finish (as is probably obvious). Is it standard procedure for a gunsmith to remove the sights before he would finish a rifle? If not then I thought I would save the rear sight as is by taking it off before they...
I picked this up at a garage sale last October. I think it's the worst purchase I've ever made. I should've walked away from this when the smith got back to me on it's condition. Oh well. I didn't and I'm now much poorer. Long story short = new barrel plus many other things.
My questions...
Thanks both. I went back to the gun store today and I'm glad I took a closer look. It looks like someone took a nail and tried to scratch their name into the inside of the receiver while they were drunk, while simultaneously banging on the forestock with a hamer. The Remington model 48 next to...
Hi all,
I saw a Remington Sportsman 48 for $150 the other day in a local gunstore. I'm very tempted by it. Does that seem like a good deal? Can anyone tell me anything about this gun (is it even worth considering) and if I decide to go pick it up what kind of things can I look for to make...
Thanks to all! I appreciate all the feedback and knowledge. I think I will do my best to finish the sporter process on this rifle. I'm letting go Hutch :-). It's hard, but I will do so. And I do think I will keep it the way it is Roswell, at least for a while. Thanks again everyone.
I recently purchased a sporterized 1917. Unfortunately the sporterer did a number on the stock and barrel. I actually think the stock was nicely done (for being hacked up) and would work well for hunting. The barrel, however; had a the dovetail sight drilled straigh through it :-(. As an...
