I've got the 410 Tamer from H&R, and it goes with me camping and hiking every time. The great thing about the 410 is that you can carry several different types of ammo, and all together it still weighs nearly nothing.
In short, they are great guns.
I have never shot a Jennings. I have a friend that shot one literally to pieces, a 380 if I recall. It didn't explode, it just kinda came apart in his hands. I also looked at a used one once, the safety lever had no tension on it, so you couldn't tell if it was on safe or not.
With issues...
I'm a fan of the 410. I bring one hiking and camping every time out. I'm also a big fan of the AK platform, and of Saigas. That said, I just don't see the need for a Saiga 410, especially for somebody who you don't even know yet.
In the end, if you want it, get it. Don't make excuses...
The Hi-point is ugly to look at, but beautiful to shoot. Just ignore the snobs as you chew up the center of your target.
Seriously, mine has been 100% reliable and is very accurate to boot. I routinely shoot soda cans at 50-75 yards with it.
Everybody who has shot mine has asked where I...
+1 on going back to the original mag. I had a roommate who just had to mod his SKS for more than 10 rounds. It never worked right, and he sold it eventually. I've had a few that I left stock and they have all been flawless.
I got one in similar shape for $200 not too long ago. It was gently used and well cared for.
For one that is NIB, still in the cosmoline, I'd be willing to go no higher than $300. For $300 you can get an unissued Yugo.
You said M44, right? Did you fire it with the bayonet in or out? My groups with my M44 are literally half the size when the bayonet is extended. You may get some funny looks at the range, but swing that baby out and see how your rifle groups then. I'd lay money on it that it will shoot better.
Having grown up in NYFC I can tell you that it's a truly wonderful place to visit. It is, however, a terrible place to try to live.
My Dad took me to Arms and Armor at least once a month, every month, when I was growing up. It was about a 30 minute walk from his apartment. I've got the...
If the street price reflected what you actually got, and if I could find quality 20-30 round mags at a reasonable price I'd buy one in an instant. The accuracy is just too spotty and Ruger charges too damn much for their mags. Until then, no mini for me, even if I love the look and feel. What...
For your run of the mill gunshop AK you shouldn't need any special paperwork. Unless you're into home gunsmithing, make sure it already takes regular 30 round ak mags.
Make sure to check for canted front sights. Just google the term.
Finally, enjoy it.
Buy it, provided it's fully functional. $50 is not much money these days. Heck you can get a convertible 22lr/22mag six-shooter for less than a tank of gas, and you're wondering if it's a good deal? Call your buddy and buy it.
