    What breed for home security?

I trust my home and family to an Akita. and here. Doesn't bark unless necessary. Very cerebral. Cleans after himself. Gets along well with my kids and other dog and cats. Aloof with strangers, but has never presented himself to be a danger to anyone that I've allowed into my home. Bad side...

    Teach your children situational awareness!!!

Terrible story. Agreed. The evil walk among us everyday and we never know when we will be visited by it. I hope the families involved are able to rest one day.

    Looking for new authors

Very true. Also, the Travis McGee series by John D McDonald is a must read. Some of Andy McNabb's stuff is okay. Lee Child isn't the greatest of writers, but his story telling is excellent. I just started a new series, author David Stone. It has some promise.

    Answering the call.

I haven't posted here since Oct. of 08, but check in an regularly read the strategies for info. I had to post when I saw that some were bashing SM for his style. I throughly enjoy sm's post and is one that I look for when checking in here. SM, continue on.

    What would you do?

If I'm carrying, I get up and look for somewhere else to sit. I didn't slip my 357 in my pocket to make sure some seats were available. I understand you didn't either, but if anything had happened, that's how it would have been perceived.

    This stinks!

As I've referenced here before, this is a good time for the racking of a shotgun to provide all the deterrent necessary. I know, I speak from experience. We did this as a kid. Not at 1am though. Home owner caught us in the act, he racked his shotgun and gave a non high road verbal command, and...

    Home Defense (Philosophy)

Two years ago I would have answered differently, but now I have a little one to protect. I doubt my thought process would ever get to escape, but rather would be to defend. Like someone above stated, you don't know what else is out there. Maybe there's more in a van parked on the curb, maybe...

How can you train it out of you?

Interesting replies as always, but allow me to spin this around a little. Why play to your weakness? Why not stick to your strengths? The element of surprise can go a long way in a fight. There is a difference between being stupid and being aggressive, find the line and you should be good...

Crimson Trace - How they do that?

Mine doesn't defy the laws of physics... it was horribly off from the factory but was easy enough to zero in. Have shot a couple hundred rounds thru it without having to re-zero. Great Product....

Even with Ike, you gotta love Texas

So I'm somewhere in Alabama, have no idea about my house in Beaumont, don't know about our beach cabin in Crystal Beach, my dogs don't like the hotel room, my 8 month old doesn't like 11 hour car rides, etc.... Anyone involved with one of these knows how horrible it can be and how everyone...

Are you pro-gun but with close friends who are gun-ignorant?

Are you saying that I shouldn't be friends with someone I grew up with because of this? I didn't say the guy was a bleeding liberal, I said he wasn't educated on the issue to be on either side. What's fundamental to you isn't to others. Does he love his family? Is he a good friend? There's...

Are you pro-gun but with close friends who are gun-ignorant?

Ya, I got some close friends that have families with no guns in the house. They got baseball bats and think thats good enough. Most likely it isn't. They're not anti, they just aren't educated enough about guns to own one. What kind of jerk would I be if I decided I didn't need some of my...

Dogs - different breeds deterrents or bullseyes?

As others have pointed out already, this isn't necessarily the case. Dogs that are bred for protection do not need any additional training. It is actually suggested that you do nothing, for any more gaurd/protection training could turn your pet into a problem. This is for your big "bully...
