My Daughter is moving to Boston???

First, let us heed what the opencarry.org people say: Further, the information regarding MA on that site is incomplete. For instance, under private sales, "Not Yet Determined"; permit required, "Not Yet Determined"; K-12 carry, "Not Yet Determined ". All of these things are well determined...

My Daughter is moving to Boston???

The phrase used in the MA laws is "use or carrying of such firearm as the licensing authority deems proper." The licensing authorities have deemed it improper to show any sign of carrying a firearm unless you also have a badge. Yes, if you are noticed to have a firearm, you will loose your LTC...

My Daughter is moving to Boston???

She will need probably need an LTC to get the firearm into the apartment. She will also need one to take it with her to a range for practice. Anybody owning a sidearm in MA should have an LTC. MA prohibits open carry. Verify with GOAL, but I believe she needs to establish residency first...

Homemade 5 ga. Rotary Tumbler, with Pictures

Just a thought, but if the stuff inside is knocking against the lid and causing it to unscrew, could you reverse the direction and get it to tighten instead? Thanks for the link to those lids -- I use 5 gal buckets for lots of stuff. Lids just makes them a whole lot more useful!

    Kroil

I have heard about vinegar pitting as well. I have not experienced myself, but I suspect it is one of two things: either vinegar somehow removes divots (most acids would attack uniformly, but more noticeably on the corners) or the pits were already there are the vinegar/H2O2 actually cleaned...

    Kroil

According to Machinist's Workshop, April 2007 issue, Kano Kroil was the best commercial penetrating oil for breaking free rusted nuts. Liquid Wrench took only about 20% more pressure, but costs only about 1/5 as much. However, the best penetrate they tested was one that I have used for years...

My first rifle and the problem I remember

I don't see the pic, but I'll guess that the problem could be that you lost the ejector. On that model, it is simply held in with a screw, which probably went away together. The rifle was made by CBC in Brazil, and parts are hard to find 'round here (imported c. 1992, I think). But, maybe...

Does anyone else want a lever action 500 magnum rifle?

+1 for Marlin -- I'll take that over a Puma even for a few dollars more. Marlin seems to be dragging on calibers in the levers. Too bad.

Does anyone else want a lever action 500 magnum rifle?

Personally, I would like to see a .460 S&W lever action, which is almost what you are looking for. Puma has the .454 Casull, which will also run .45 Colts. A lever in .460S&W could operate with three cartridge sizes, for three ranges of loadings. This is more attractive to me than the...

    Safer cartridge portfolio

True! You cannot simply check the same things twice. The checks have to be substantially different. Well, the dam model breaks down at some point. Yes, if we are only talking about water seepage, any dam will pass the water because each checks only by the same parameter. When I pick up a...

    Safer cartridge portfolio

Ed Ames, Let me build on the dam analogy. The chasm between the two dams is normally empty, until a fault emerges in the dam holding back the water. If the chasm begins to fill, you know you have a fault and you can take corrective action (e.g. fix the hole). In the case at hand, I always...

    Safer cartridge portfolio

No, sorry, I don't see it. If I have two ways to travel, one with cars and the other not. Even if the way with cars is 1% shorter than the one without, I am likely to go the longer route to avoid the traffic (aka the other stupid drivers, the risk of a tie-up, etc.). Now, if the longer way...

    Safer cartridge portfolio

I think some posters might be missing the intent of my post. Of course, I have and will have a system. I do check my cases when I pick them up to ensure that they are not someone else's. I sort cases by brand, weight, number of loads, etc. When I reload, I take steps to ensure proper loads...

    Safer cartridge portfolio

243 Win dmazur: I do like the 243 -- popular, wide range for reload, fairly reasonable cost, lots of rifles to choose from, etc. I guess I would feel better if someone knew what the consequences of firing a .243 from a .308 rifle were. If only Ackley were still experimenting. I suspect that...

    Safer cartridge portfolio

Vaarok: Hopefully never. But, there are opportunities. Maybe I dropped ammo on the floor. All the ammo sits on a shelf, in MTM boxes, nicely labelled, but the ammo had to be put in the box -- maybe I thought I checked the label, but filled the box with something else. Maybe just one round...

    Safer cartridge portfolio

Following up... EHCRain10: The 25-06 may be just the kind of thing I was thinking to avoid. The .25-06 will sure enough not chamber in a .308, but the reverse looks like a disaster if tried. It sure looks to me, from the drawings, that a .308 might chamber (fit) in a .25-06, maybe easily with...

    The 30-30 round?

.30-30 I love my 30-30 rifles (Win 94 and Marlin 336). I have a tang-mounted peep on the 94 and, somewhere along the way, Ackley Improved the chamber. The 336 has a scope and unmodified chamber. The 30-30 round has never failed to drop a deer when I used it for that. The 94 is light...

    Safer cartridge portfolio

I have always been concerned about putting the wrong ammo into a firearm. As such, I avoid owning firearms that could create some confusion between similar looking cartridges. So far, I have basically only two real rifle calibers (besides .22LR): .30-30 and .308 Win. I have had my .30-30...
