starting out: rifle or pistol ?

Agree with above. Loading pistol is way easier than rifle.

Difficulty Factor: Straight Case vs Bottleneck

If by difficult you mean time spent, then yes, bottle necked cartridges are a lot more difficult. Resizing first, trimming, lubing, and then de-lubing adds to the process. For straight wall pistol cases, they run pretty quick through my progressive press.

What do you like and hate about your Kahr?

I have a CW40. Pros: - Feels great in the hand with rubber grip - Slim, easy to conceal - Simple Cons: - 40 is probably too powerful for this gun. 9mm probably would have been a better choice - My CW40 is very picky with ammo. It likes FMJ bullets, absolutely hates lead reloaded bullets, and...

Bayou Rifles has a 1000 yard range, but is private membership only.

    Powder Valley order arrived

I made an order a couple of days ago for bullet components. I was disappointed that I was charged $28 shipping for 4000 bullets. They really need to upgrade their online shopping system to include shipping costs. The "shipping guidelines" on the front page weren't even close to what I was...

    Powder dealers in Houston?

Saving up and ordering online is still the best bet if you already know what you want. If you have to have it locally, I think all the posts above are still valid. Bass Pro has reloading supplies now, but they are way overpriced. Bailey's has what you want, but not the friendliest place...

US Army signs contract with Remington (M4s)

Saying that Remington has the same quality as Bushmaster and DPMS is a bit unfair just because they have the same parent company. Remington has always had higher quality products than either Bushmaster or DPMS. It's like saying Lexus and Toyota are of the same quality.

    Powder Storage

I use a rolling metal filing cabinet. It has a simple keylock and plenty of ventilation given how loose the tolerances are.

    Hornady Zombie/Z-Max 224 a really good deal?

Aside from all the hoopla and marketing, and given that the z-max bullets are considered equivalent to the V-Max bullets, are the z-max bullets just a really good deal? I'm looking at the 55gr z-max with cannelure and it's almost 25% cheaper than the equivalent v-max bullets. I really don't...

For low velocity as mentioned above, I've had very good results with Clays.

TAC is my general purpose powder of choice. Good results and meters very well.

Open discussion on smoke from lead loads

I load clays and MB in 9, 40, and 45. There is indeed quite a bit of smoke with this combination. The same clays load with plated bullets has much less smoke. I remember trying Titegroup with MB as well, and I also recall lots of smoke. I think it's all about the lube burning up as stated above.

    reloading supplies in Houston Tx

I usually order online and in bulk to save in cost, but on rare occasions do buy locally. If you're on the south side of town, Bass Pro has expanded their selection quite a bit, but is still quite expensive. My preferred shop is Bailey's House of Guns. I don't care for their range much, but...

Possible to convert Kahr CW40 to 9mm?

I know that 9mm conversion barrels exist for other types of hand guns, but do any off the shelf solutions exist to convert a Kahr CW40 to 9mm? I regular shoot 40 in larger handguns, but I find the cartridge a bit much for the Kahr.

Best sub-$100 scope for Ruger 10/22

If you're looking for a bench scope (for a .22) the Simmons Whitetail 6-20x from Midway is an excellent buy. It's user reviews speak for itself.

First buy: SIG SP2022 vs. FN FNP-9

I own a German made SP2022. The grip is definitely wider than normal guns in its size and you should try it before you buy it. It doesn't bother me, but I could see it uncomfortable for people with smaller hands. Btw, I personally don't believe that 45 has a more pleasant recoil than 40. I...

I have the Hornady unit. It works pretty good for me.

What is the most unreliable semi auto you have shot ?

    1. Kahr CW40 - it's extremely picky with what it likes, and even with the right ammo I still wouldn't trust it 100% 2. Ruger 10/22 - when using non-oem steel lip mags, it's fairly picky as well. 3. Walther P22 - I shoot it fairly smoothly, but for some reason it jams like crazy when I let...

Do you own a progressive reloading press?

This is not really surprising to me. The hornady's are sold everywhere including Cabelas and Bass Pro. The Dillon's are only sold from Dillon.
