    Telescopic sights verses airguns

Thanks for the replies folks. Natman, all the scopes were airgun rated. That's what got me annoyed in the first place. rcmodel. The bushnell lasted the longest, 15 shoots, one day on the range, or about 200 pellets in total before the tracking turned 'mushy'. Fault found to be a dislodged...

    Telescopic sights verses airguns

Hi guys. Got a little problem for someone to solve. I use a spring airgun for hunting (43 ft lbs). Not a problem but I graduated from iron sights to telescopic sights and almost immediately ruined a Tasco scope. It literally shattered the glass reticule. So, assuming that the scope wasn't...

    Angle Firing

Hi. REgarding angle firing, shooting at an angle it is easy to calculate the real range by using Cos(angle) X laser range. The question I'm looking for an answer to is how does the angle affect the power. For example You are shooting at 1 o'clock up a hill. Laser range says 300 yards...

UK vs US Gun Control & Crime Statistics?

UK Gun Laws Statistics, statistics, and statistics. Numbers, opinions and reports. Yawn!!! The real reason why we have draconian gun laws is that this and past UK governments are scared stiff of the 'people' being armed. It must be something to do with self preservation as I'm convinced that...

    Wind Drift and airguns

Can anyone help (and yes I know that wind drift is an oldie, thrashed to death subject). Recently I've been introduced to the world of long distance (100 yards) target shooting with PCP air rifles. Despite hours of searching on the web, all the articles I've read and software I have found...

Retired man shoots two robbers at his home - did he overreact?

Was he right or wrong? He was right! Pity we can't protect ourselves in the UK like that. Use anything more than harsh language at someone and here the police arrest you. We have to use "reasonable force" to protect our families and homes. The guidelines are:- In England and Wales...

Click, no boom, how long do you need to wait??

Had an old .303 round fire some 2 minutes after waiting 30 seconds before unloading. Luckily I had jammed the round into the turf pointy end down so when it went off the cartridge case went straight up and left a small hole about a hand span in diameter. Never did find either part. Wonder why??

Most accurate target rifle out to 300 yards

Nice modern rifles but if you want style find an Enfield Enforcer L39A1 7.62mm. Ranges up to 300 yards is a mite close for the Enfield action but my average was 6" on a still day. I made 11" groups at 600 yards and 17" at 900. Cost, £80.00 plus a new barrel £130.00. Don't use anything...

I offer you a glimpse of UK Shooting Law

Our shooting rights and even how we buy, keep, and use weapons is controlled by various draconian laws one of which you might like to browse through. The latest bit of ill considered legislation is the Violent Crime Reduction Act further reduces the Uk shooters rights and even the right to...

English and March against gun bans

Don't forget the latest bit of ill considered legislation in the shape of the Violent Crime Reduction Act which further reduces the Uk shooters rights and even the right to carry a lock knife (something which I have done for years). Me thinks that the British government brings out such...

Gun Question - Recoil. Before or after bullet is clear?

Recoil- Airguns Don't forget the humble airgun ESPECIALLY spring powered. They subject you to a number of jerks during it´s firing cycle which cause the springier to thrash round in your hands like a mad thing. The trigger releases and the sear lets a couple of hundred weight of spring...

How old were you when you first started shooting?

Early Days It helped having my father in the Army. I was given my first airgun at 6, and he snuck me onto the range when ever he could until I could hold a BREN LMG into my shoulder aged 8yrs old. I was brusied black and blue on my neck and shoulder. My dad got roasted by my mum, and I still...

    Back to Air Power

Lucky lot you are in the U.S. I'm limited to 12 ft lbs worth of power in the UK and the worse set of gun laws in the world! I do a lot of vermin shooting though, rabbit, rats, pigeon and the occasional pheasant but anything larger is a no no with the available power. We have foxes here but even...

    5.56 for home defense?

Shotgun all the way! Single rounds have to be carefully aimed with regard to your immediate emvironment. In a stress situation you can't beat the terror factor of facing a shotgun and the fact that you the user doesn't need to try very hard to hit the target.
