Well, I appreciate all the responses.
I think I might recommend a FNP 40 USG to the guy. He probably will go with the GLOCK, though, and I won't try and talk him out of it. Funny how GLOCK has such a brand name appeal even to people that know nothing about guns, I blame the rappers...
I just did, not too long ago. I'm hoping he picks one up (give me a chance to use it myself).
For the holster comments, let me just say that I was referring to a situation where you had to carry in a coat pocket because your shirt was tucked in. Obviously a holster is a must when you can wear...
I see, I hardly think this guy's gonna go through all the trouble of sewing a holster to a jacket, though. I do like the fact that the hammer can't catch on clothing.
Wow, I had no idea that Glocks used no hammer. I'm reading that the trigger is only 7 pounds out the factory, is this true?
I'm still a bit hung up on the fact that you need a holster with these no-safety guns, though. I'm gonna say that the lighter trigger pull puts the Glock ahead of the...
Just noticed how ridiculous it reads when I say the glock is "too ugly" when the gun will be a carry piece. But aesthetics aside, it just strikes me as something cheap. The guy hardly minds (or even realizes it), so consider that my irrelevant opinion.
I got a friend looking for a carry pistol in .40 caliber. I told him to save up and get a 1911, but I understand the guy would rather get something under $500 that comes in plastic...
Right now he's got a compact glock on layaway, $550 out the door. I think he might be better off with a Sig...
Good question. I started shooting with a .45, so it doesn't seem heavy to me. Maybe someone that shoots 9mm would hate it. They could always download it to .45 ACP levels and get the extra magazine capacity with the same power.
Bah, I wasn't trying to say you made it up, it just didn't sound right. Since you said there was no exit wound I guess you're saying it was a bulge where the exit wound would have been if the bullet penetrated. First time I ever heard of a medium powered handgun cartridge doing that kind of...
Did you just say you saw a handgun wound that left a hole the size of a fist? And it didn't incapacitate?
I'm gonna give you benefit of the doubt and assume you're some kind of narcotics officer or something, since you said that you've watched gunfight after gunfight and even know the...
From my perspective, I know that unless I go into some kinda crazed mode and start spraying everywhere I'm going to pull out and lay 3 to 5 rounds in my aggressors face in a gunfight. Probably land me in jail afterward, but that's that.
What I'm most worried about is incapacitating the enemy...
Well, If you're not wanting it, let me know and I'll buy it off you for a couple hundred less than you bought it. ;) I've been saving up to pick one up myself. A scout rifle's got it's own worth to it; if you want to just throw a regular scope on it you may as well get a M1A Loaded (match...
I've always read, and it makes more sense to me, that stainless barrels last longer between chamberings than carbon steel ones.

That's a barrel maker's take on it.
The slide stop on a 1911 is good enough to be used by itself. I don't do it, but I don't see a problem with it.
On a double action pistol, with a small frame, I usually have problems getting my big fingers to work the little stubs they call slide stops.
It's definitely faster to depress...
I feel you, but at the same time a desperate fool on his last leg could try and mug you; if it's your life vs. his then you're hardly gonna refrain from pulling the trigger. Nobody's gonna fault you either (well not most, some would tell you to run and call the police), but you can't pretend...
I think what happens is that people who would otherwise embrace the idea of weapon ownership have been guilt-tripped into coming up with reasons why they're not violent.
It's like how when you go to a long range shooting competition everyone wants to make it known that they're just having...
I still think that if you were skilled enough you could use a gun better than a knife at that range, but I'm not sure the average guy's gonna Clint Eastwood somebody close range. The way I see most guys train in videos they look like they're wired on caffeine or something.
