I was under the impression that Stainless is a non-ferrous alloy..at leat it was when I was a heat treater.....or is it only certain kinds?

I was taking the sideplate off of my new Taurus 85SS...and noticed the magnetic screwdiver bit was sticking...all over the gun. Is this simply a high carbon stainless...or whats the deal. I plan on beadblesting the whol gun tomorrow..hopefully the steel is up to it..
