I just went through a similar process. Except I started on a turret press. The turret press was great but was a little bit slow and I ended up splitting out each stage to ensure everything was just right. I also did hand priming to remove that burden @ the press.
After a LOT of research...
I asked the same question :)

Regarding the Lyman Turret press, another problem I was having was deflection issues of the turret head. everything was tight but it would still deflect a little during loading which slightly misaligned the bullet...
I wonder how many other people use the large cylinder to charge small charges. Since I got mine on ebay it didn't have the small cylinder so thought I'd try the charge quality of the large before purchasing a small cylinder.
I load 9mm and 45acp so am around 4.5-5.5 grains typically. with...
had a bell/charge die that had some difficulties. they shipped me out a replacement immediately no charge. very quick and friendly.
I have a turret press that had some deflection issues. called and was forwarded to their resident expert(I guess that's what he was, Dave I think his name...
and just to clarify:
my setup consists of a separate seating and crimp process. I utilize the lee factory crimp die for case conformity. set up all 7 cases exactly the same. I also did the barrel test by pulling the barrel out and individually dropping each round in to ensure they were all...
crimp is identical to the other 6 blank rounds I chambered through the firearm perfectly.
I'm curious on your crimp. lyman 49th manual shows .380. all of my cases show ~.377 by simply taking out the bell. How did you get yours down to .370?
I was setting up the OAL of some 9mm rounds and loaded up some empty rounds to check cycling in the gun(note, primers were NOT installed)
during cycling I noticed that one of the rounds consistently had difficulty completely chambering w/out a little nudge. OAL was the same, case length...
I did a lot of research before choosing a powder measure and had a lot of positive feedback on the uniflow so got a used one from ebay. it only came with the large cylinder.
Based on additional reading, I also purchased the baffle.
the first time I used it, I ran ~20 charges through it to...
props to lyman customer service. I told them what my problem was and they immediately sent me a new die body. the new one works like a charm. thanks on the tips for opening up the other body.
it was a brand new die and no burrs found so I'm guessing you're right. I'll call lyman and see if I need to go purchase a dremel or if they'll fix it for me. thanks for the feedback.
I began reloading not long ago using a lyman turret press. I purchased RCBS pistol dies, a RCBS powder measure, and a lyman multi expander/charge die.
When I first started I was running a bullet through the entire turret(minus the priming, I do hand priming in front of the tube)...
First of all I do enjoy this die. It simplifies the process significantly on my turret press. And the expand die has a taper that works well for seating lead bullets. But I have a bit of a problem and was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same thing.
The appropriate expander...
I use a Lyman multi expand charge die for running my RCBS powder measure. Not sure how the redding is setup. It dropped my production time down and provides a better flare on my pistol casing than the RCBS expander die did.
