    Help with CMP Garand Please

I like the Greek much better than LC. I've used several different lots of both and the Greek always seems to do better (with both a Garand and a M1903). That said, my only experience with LC is de-linked machinegun ammunition. I've often wondered if machinegun ammo is held to less stringent...

M1 Garand converted to use BAR mags

It's a little off topic but firearm designer J.D. Pederson (the same Pederson of the "Pederson Device") was a player in the early development of the semi-automatic service rifle. Pederson was highly regarded by the War Department and was a renowned firearms designer. Pederson was a proponent...

    .30-06 M2 Ball

I brought up this subject on the CMP forum a few years ago and never got a definitive answer so I thought I'd bring it up here. I own an M1 Garand and an M1903. I use surplus M2 Ball in both (exclusively in the Garand). I've used both Lake City (LC) and the Greek HXP. The Greek has...

    Best rifle/carbine for non-military non-LEO California citizen

Hmmm... CA ok carbines? Sharps, Spencer, Burnside, Maynard, Starr... The choices are nearly endless!

M1 Garand converted to use BAR mags

:D I've read the same thing. I've also read there was great reluctance (particularly amongst the Marine Corps) to even adopt a semi-automatic rifle in the first place. It was claimed it would lead to troops wasting ammunition. I wonder what type of reaction Eugene Stoner would've received...

    M1 Garand Ammo

I concur with FlyinBryan on both of his posts. I'd add that you should stick to ammo that close in specs to GI .30-06 M2 Ball.

M1 Garand converted to use BAR mags

I've been reading Hatcher's Book of the Garand by MajGen Julian S. Hatcher. In 1921, the Ordnance Department published requirements for all semi-automatic rifles submitted for testing and possible adoption. It spelled out many requirements including weight and use of the .30-06 service...

    M1 Garand Op Rod Broken

I've seen quite a few broken oprod springs but that one takes the cake. The other springs aren't likely to be in that sad of shape but it certainly won't do any harm to replace them. After the oprod spring, the one that seems to fail the most is the clip latch spring. I believe...

ilbob Speaking of Kane County, let's get rid of the Aurora AWB too!

    Illinois HB182

I stand corrected about "vehement opposition". :) Finally a glimmer of hope in a state that's been headed in the wrong direction for far too many years.

Let's find out. Any volunteers? :D

    Illinois HB182

HB182 will undoubtedly receive vehement opposition. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes down in flames. Leftist Cook County moonbats run this asylum. ...and remember, violate ANY firearms law and your FOID card gets revoked. In Illinois, the 2nd Amendment is a privilege, not a right.

Mauser 98 question...worth it or not?

SaxonPig :) Pretty rifle, BUT... ...while I certainly appreciate the beauty of a fine hunting or target rifle, I prefer my milsurps "as issued". Just my preference.

Mauser 98 question...worth it or not?

Sporterized milsurp rifles break my heart. :( If you can pick up a decent stock for it at a fair price, I'd go for it. It wouldn't necessarily even need to be the "correct" stock. The "Amberg 1917" stock you mentioned would work for me.

    M1 Garand Op Rod Broken

Being a Garand nut, I serve as the armorer for my VFW post. Several of the post's rifles have op rods with minor damage in the area of the relief cut. I was a little perplexed as to what had caused it until I found grenade launcher cartridges mixed in with our blanks. I'm guessing that was...

    M1 Garand Op Rod Broken

PCGS65 already provided the link to the Orion 7 springs but here's another link that gives more detail and describes their "free replacement guarantee". Scroll to the bottom of the page. http://www.m1garandrifle.com/news.htm I've never bought one but I've read great things about them on...

Are you supposed to throw you magazines away when you move to California?

I'm ashamed to admit this: I live in the Big Blue Gulag formerly known as Illinois. My local community passed a draconian (even for Illinois standards) "AWB" several years ago. (I digress but it includes toys and airsofts that resemble "assault weapons" and does not "grandfather"...

    M1 Garand Op Rod Broken

+1 on everything above. Replacing the spring is incredibly easy. Just pull the follower rod off of the follower arm and pull the spring out of the oprod. You don't even need to remove the oprod. The thought of a broken oprod sends shivers down the spine of all Garand-o-philes. Please...
