What 9mm Defensive Ammunition do You Carry?

I used to have 'favorites' when it came to JHP ammunition for my pistols and revolvers. Nowadays, having seen at least my fair share of scientific organic gel testing, and considering actual OIS incidents when I was still working as a firearms trainer, I'm ... less picky. ;) Give me something...

What 9mm Defensive Ammunition do You Carry?

There's a reason behind the growing popularity of the assorted polymer nose cavity plugs being developed for LE use. ;) As it trickles down to commercial use, it's not a bad thing.

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

I've replaced a couple soft UM pocket holsters, and picked up some Ammo Armor plastic magazine protectors for 'extra' spare mag pocket carry for some of my pistols (when I'm wearing a jacket). Reminds me of when I'd slip some extra mags in my cold weather jackets while working our range.

Do You Change Your Every Day Carry When Going On Lengthy Out of State Road Trips?

Not anymore. I used to overthink such things as a young cop and firearms instructor. :scrutiny: I do, however, carry either a couple 'extra' extra magazines (against loss/damage), or speedloaders/strips, and an extra box or 2 of ammunition.

Man stabs cop to death before armed civilian stops him.

This one was pretty damned impressive. Calm, deliberate and sufficiently skilled ... and he didn't appear to have startled the horses, either. One-Handed Pistol Shot at 104 Yards, While Holding Horses https://www.alloutdoor.com/2014/12/04/one-handed-pistol-shot-104-yards-holding-horses/

Man stabs cop to death before armed civilian stops him.

Several years ago, when we were putting together a class for the POST Tactical Weapons part of in-service training, we decided to slip in some fun for the guys & gals scheduled for the class. Once we gave them some basic refreshers, we set up some standard size pepper poppers for them to shoot...

Man stabs cop to death before armed civilian stops him.

Well, at my last firearms instructor update before retirement, they were still requiring the instructor/students to shoot a scored course-of-fire that went out to 50yds (silhouette targets). We had to do it with duty pistols using normal irons ... and then again with the sights taped over (front...

Man stabs cop to death before armed civilian stops him.

I've been 'magnetized' lately, meaning I've been meeting increasingly more cops in my circle of folks at my cigar club. Most have only 10-15yrs on the job, and they've been talking about the usual subjects of buying homes and new trucks, daily LE activities and politics (and how it affects the...

Man stabs cop to death before armed civilian stops him.

Indeed. However, looking at the environment where the individual (RP? Suspect? Witness?) was standing, the cop could've easily paused a moment at 7-10yds to ask/confirm if the individual was the RP. Normal verbal engagement during a normal approach. Sure, the suspect could've lied and tried to...

Man stabs cop to death before armed civilian stops him.

I remember back in the late 90's researching the stats on this, and it was running about 15% according to FBI numbers. The increasing introduction of L2/3 duty holsters and more attention to DT seemed to be bringing the numbers down as the 2000's rolled around. Here's a snap shot of one recent...

Man stabs cop to death before armed civilian stops him.

First off, it was never a 'rule'. That was a misnomer, helped in part by the way some gun magazine writers may have treated it, and how it was subsequently discussed in various academies. It took on a life of its own as it was talked about and spread. In reality, it was a drill created by...

Man stabs cop to death before armed civilian stops him.

I have some passing familiarity with self defense, including defenses against edged weapons, and that includes 'angular movement off the X' in response to an attacker's initial movement/attack. I was learning that stuff at the beginning of the 70's when I first started my study and involvement...

Man stabs cop to death before armed civilian stops him.

How did you arrive at the theory that the suspect would've run past the officer? Why wouldn't he have simply turned and continued forward to deliberately track the officer's movements, continuing to rush him and then repeatedly stab/slash him, anyway? Distance is your friend when facing...

Talisman or Tool Claude Werner Article

As a retired firearms trainer, I had my own variety of experiences, and at the same time I also had to march to the drum beat passed down from those above me making the decisions. ;) That said, there were some interesting things, regarding training, I heard from some of our folks who had been...

Paragraphs. The article needs paragraphs. :neener: Read it. Nothing really new. It's always interesting to hear from the Tactical Professor, though. FWIW, he's also a big fan of the venerable snub revolver for personal self defense. https://thetacticalprofessor.net/category/j-frame/ While...

Anyone else uses vastly different guns for carry?

Good question anyone carrying a handgun for a dedicated defensive weapon ought to ask themselves. Reminds me of some CCW licensees I saw come through classes who had brought both a revolver and a pistol to use for qualification. One person in particular always comes to mind. The shooter had...

    BodyGuard issues

If the pistol repair tech couldn't duplicate the problem with whatever American factory ammo was used, then it might be an issue with the ammo you're using at this moment in time. If the manual slide retraction feels different, you might call and ask for a replacement RSA (or 2, if you buy...

Anyone else uses vastly different guns for carry?

Anyone else uses vastly different guns for carry? "Vastly different" meaning make, model and caliber? Yes. "Vastly different" from what I spent many years training to use? No. I started out as a young cop carrying a DA revolver on & off-duty, as well as my Commander on my own time. By the...

    Practicing in various weather

Sure. Not my favorite, but we held training and quals come rain or shine on pour outdoor ranges. Smart cops don't sign up to schedule rainy/cold weather quals, but sometimes if they wait until the end of the month for their alpha group, that might be all that's left. Nobody liked to go to a...
