    .25 ACP test, and apology

So I took my new Taurus PT .25 through its paces and am pleasantly surprised. Accuracy was very good out of such a small pistol. With the winchester 50 grain FMJ rounds, I was consistently penetrating one of those pressure treated 2X4's (albeit the 2" side), even when I was aiming for the knot...

    .32 vs .22LR for Self-Defense

I agree. When fired from a rifle, I'd have to give the edge to the .22 rimfire in terms of KE. When fired from a short barrelled handgun, you are lucky to get 90 foot-pounds. The .32 automatic has a larger, heavier bullet, and 130 foot pounds to play with.

    Movie; non firearm weapons used.

The movie "Hard Target" featured an arrow firing gun powered by compressed air. I looked up the specs and they actually make such a gun. (Swivel Machine Works) Basically, the hollow arrow fits over the barrel of the gun. A release of compressed air fires the arrow. This gun can fire a 320...

    What is More Dangerous?

A handgun is more lethal. If you've ever shot a deer with an arrow, you'll know that it will run for quite a while until it bleeds out. In a human, that gives the shootee time to inflict lethal injury to the shooter. One needs stopping power, not lethality. Also, I seriously doubt if an...

    Canes

I don't know the legality of such a device, but a custom gun maker some years ago made a CO2 powered cane that shot a heavy lead slug at a relitively low (yet still lethal) (550 fps) velocity. He also made one that actually fired a CO2 cartridge! The .72 caliber barrel held a co2 cartridge...

    Tokarev a good pistol?

Tokarev=good pistol. I especially like the 7.62X25 Czech round. Visit the "box-of-truth" ballistic testing. This round was the only handgun round tested to bust through the side of a Kevlar military helmet and destroy the water jug it was protecting.

Boar Hunting, Best caliber to use ? ? ?

Go with the 12 gauge slug. Use the .45 pistol as a backup. You need stopping power for these suckers. I know high powered rifle hunting is illegal in some states (ohio, for instance), as stray bullets will travel too far.

PBA airgun ammo, as good as advertised?

"25% increase in velocity, penetration, and energy". This statement is totally ridiculuous. How can one increase the velocity 25% and increase the energy 25% when energy is proportional to the square of the velocity? Remember 1/2*m*v^2=KE?

    big bore airguns

In comparing the Dragonslayer with the 909, I must say the 909 is more powerful and easier to modify to produce more powerful shots (280fpe) and more efficient use of air. The Dragonslayer is more accurate out of the box and is very quick to load, making for easy follow up shots. The 909 is...

    big bore airguns

yes, some people have taken buffalo with a .58 caliber single shot compressed air rifle made by Dennis Quackenbush. These will generate 800 fpe. All of these airguns only will shoot 900 fps max. It is the heavy 300+ grain bullet that give them so much energy.

PBA airgun ammo, as good as advertised?

Those PBA pellets are gimmicks. No accuracy and will ruin any decent spring gun. They are too light. Yes, it will break the sound barrier with an 1000+ fps pellet gun, but so what? Useless for hunting. I prefer my RWS 350 in .22 caliber with quality pellets for any bunny-bash.

    big bore airguns

I have a few of these. The production guns are mostly from Korea. My big bore airgun collection includes the Sam Yang 909 in .45 caliber (200 foot pounds of energy), Shin Sung Dragon in .50 (180 fpe), and the Career Ultra in 9mm (140 fpe). The last gun mentioned is a six shot, lever action...
