Any recommend any 110V AC flashlight or spotlight?

I have a boat dock i'm running power out to this winter and would like a bright spotlight I could use to look out over the river at night. Its miles across and very rural so don't worry about it being too bright!

Ive been thinking of making one up myself with one of those old-fashioned work lights that takes the regular household lamp light bulb. Then putting in some kind of an outdoor LED spotlight. However most of what I see however is more of a flood light.

Just curious if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks, Dan

My experience with lights and water is that even the brightest aircraft landing light you can rig on a boat is pretty feeble over water.

I guess it reflects it back up in the clouds or something.

But a spotlight you can see half a mile with on land is much less then half that on water.

The other problem at night is the water is usually colder then the air.
So you get mist / steam raising off the water at low level near the surface.

And the stronger the light, the more it interferes with long range beam penetration through it.

Yes I have had the same experience. I think it is because the water is so dark it just absorbs the light. However the shoreline usually lights up well as do other boats usually since they are a lighter color. I know what you mean about the steam on the water. I'm building a raised observation deck so should be up 15 or 20' above the water line.

Ive looked at those Larson Electronics lights but never studied them too carefully. Always been interested in LED technology but maybe Halogen or incandescent is the way to go. I've gone completely over to LED in all my flashlights over the past 5 years or so. I guess I need to look into halogen lights and other options.

Thanks for the input. This project is completely un-necessary. Its just something for fun. Its amazing how bright 3 and 6 volt flashlights are these days. Im sure its amazing what would be possible with 110v AC current!

Thanks again, Dan

You should go over to candlepowerforums and ask there. Those guys know more about lights than anyone.

How about a short arc search light from a tank?
