I'm purchasing a CZ 452 Lux in .222 Remington.
With just one rifle to be concerned with, and a good extraction system, I would like to go directly into neck sizing only.
This will be low volume shooting, probably with Lapua brass and 50 grain soft points or match HP's.
I was wondering which bushing size should I start with, I see .245" is popular with .223" shooters, but I can't find any info on .222 Rem.
Anyone have a recommendation for bushing size?
Any other advice for loading .222 Rem in a bolt gun?

Hard to say because it varies by how thick the necks are and how much neck tension you want.

I have .237, .238, & .239 bushings for thin .22 Hornet brass. It is doubtful you will guess right the first try.

.222 brass is pretty much the same thickness as .223 so .245 may be the place to start. I always full length sized .222 when I had one.

Fire three cases in your rifle's chamber.

Measure the neck diameter of the outside of the fired cases. Subtract .003"; that would be a good starting point.

You will find that turning the case necks to a uniform thickness will increase the consistency of the neck tension, so put some money aside for an outside neck turner (and a "ball" micrometer).

Take a loaded cartridge using the same brand of brass that you will be handloading with, measure the diameter of the neck and subtract .003". That will be the correct bushing size.

Thanks all, maybe I'll just wait and pick up the bushing after I get the brass and bullets and seat a round or two in dummy rounds, I should be able to get a reading that way. At $23 a pop, I don't want to do too much experimenting with bushings.

I thought the 452 was a rimfire rifle and the 527 is the centerfire. Best to wait till you get the gun and measure fired brass to determine what bushings you need.

Measure a loaded round at the neck and subtract .003. That should be close. That will probably closer to .243 than .245.

My loaded Hornet rounds are .240/.241 and am using the .238 bushing.

You're right, it is, I have the 452 Lux in .22WMR, and I'm buying the 527, so I mis-typed.
