Ok, first I know there really arent any "deals" out there, but I was thinking about getting some ammo now, before the prices went up again.

What I was thinking was
http: 55gr Bron//www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=738
Ultramax re-man .55Gr FMJ for .38 a round.

or

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=321444
Lake City XM193 for about .435 a round.

or

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/74001-5.html
PMC Bronze BT 55gr for .38 a round

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any better "deals" going on now?

You gotta add your shipping costs in before you can get a true cost per round.

Walmart has 200rd packs of Federal 55gr jhp for $76. That's what I buy when my brass supply runs low. It was like $60-65 a year or so ago, but I just bought one the other day and they went up again.

If you want cheap ammo reload. Cheap Remington 55gr FMJ run about $5.80/100, primers are about $2.30/100, and powder can be had for $5.30/100. I have found all the cases I need locally but once fired military brass is easy to come by. It runs $55/1000 and you can get 10 loads out of a case so $0.55/100 for cases through their life. You are looking at $13.95/100 for brass cased .223 FMJ. It doesn't take long at 24 cents a shot difference for the reloading equipment to pay for itself, let alone the savings when you want top end components.

The link I provided above includes estimated shipping costs to your ZIP code.

I only buy steel-cased ammo for my semi-autos these days.

I bought a 1000 rounds of processed 223 brass from TopBrass for about $100. They also have brass and bullet combos for about $175 IIRC. Thats the best deal i've found.

I bought a 1000 rds from ammoman for $269 (I think) for wolf military classic SP delivered.

Now Benzy, where are you finding 223 brass for the price that you quoted? I'm interested in more myself.

Be careful with that FC headstamp brass. Loose primer pockets and case head separations are more common than with other brands.

Ratshooter,

The brass is at widners under their once fired section. It is going to have primer crimps that will need removed and it is going to need prepped but I've got more time than money so it doesn't matter to me. It isn't quite the way I would go for top end accuracy ammo but it certainly is more than great for blasting.

I don't about 55gr. ammo because I mostly look at 62gr. but you can get prvi 62gr for $.36 a shot. I believe wideners has it for that price, but then there is shipping.

Not bad these days, especially for 62gr.

If you figure $450 for a dillon 550 complete setup, it's paid for itself after 2000 rounds.

Thanks Benzy2. The brass I bought from Top Brass has been processed with the crimp removed and resized. They list it as being Lake City brass for the most part. I think its 92 bucks + shipping, so about 10 cents a round.

I have loaded 300 rounds but have not shot any in my Mini. I have to modify my home made brass catcher a little and then I can try the brass cased stuff. The 300 i loaded went pretty quick. The brass is already trimmed by the way.

I have a crimp remover so doing that is not a problem. Its just that I have been busier than a one legged man in an a$$ kicking contest since April 10th. The end is in sight. Then I can play. Unless a hurricane hits Texas.

I'll have to check widners. If things get real slow I don't mind doing a little extra work. My problem is once I have it loaded I just hate to shoot it up. Sorta like that other thread about hording your ammo the more of it you have.

Prvi 62gr at AIM Surplus is a great deal right now. Just keep in mind it isn't M855/SS109, it's just a 62gr conventional FMJ bullet. 100% fine for all my target shooting.

Lake City XM193 seems to be a runner up deal right now, at various places. Even Midway USA had decent prices on it. CDNN had quite good prices, don't know if it's still in stock, and ammoman.com has good prices too.
