Insane Idea.... or mad genius?

anyone know where to get .223/5.56mm blanks in Colorado?

because I've been thinking... the handle end of a lawn dart (JART if you prefer) is just about the right size to fit in the muzzle device of a standard 14x1 AK... IF one could find a 7.62 Krink brake with NO vent holes, and with a .223 blank I figure I could launch a lawn dart a fair ways downrange, inventing a new class of 'backyard' sport... redneck assault rifle lawn darts.

Ok the name is kinda wordy... but nothing would look scarier than a lawn dart sticking out of an AK barrel... :what:

Test rifle is a 5.56mmm Norinco...

Now the other solution is to obviously bolt a 37mm launcher on the underside and engineer a stick grapnel/lawn dart launcher fired by a .22 cal blank like my dog training dummy launcher... might have to go up to .38 for the metal tipped dart with folding wings... PVC could work for a barrel.... :scrutiny:

OK, tell me I'm nuts.

If your dart is just stuck in the muzzle, it'd be just like any other obstruction and would burst the brake and likely the barrel.

You are a bit nuts, but it is a fun kind of nuts! :D

If you had asked some years ago I could have provided you with several thousand rounds for free, but they are long gone.

If the outside diameter of your muzzle device is 22mm any NATO standard rifle grenade or hand grenade adapter can be launched, though I am not sure how this works with rifles that do not have an adjustable gas system.

So long as you do not stick anything into the bore (the "cup" for your lawn dart adapter fits over the outside of the muzzle device) I do not believe you will have problems. Some company used to make a soda can adapter that was a lot of fun to play with, it was a large cup shaped device that screwed on the end of a threaded barrel, you put that on and used blanks to launch the soda cans.

YMMV, so if you blow anything up please do not blame me. :)

If your dart is is just stuck in the muzzle, it would like burst the brake and the barrel.

What about launching grenades or screwing on a blank adapter? :scrutiny:
Why don't they burst barrels? Shooting blanks don't generate the same kind of pressures shooting live ammo does.

Dr Rob,

Just where did you find lawn darts? :scrutiny: :D
I thought they were no long made due to the goobermint trying to save us from ourselves.

Well if this isnt the coolest thing since that attachment to launch golfballs.

And yeah, where DID you get lawn darts?

And what is that thing mounted to the underside of your AK?

That isn't my AK in the pic... I think that's some sort of tear gas round that fits a 35mm launcher photoshopped with asingle JART.

Let's just say I came across a certain young lady who had some lawn darts laying around, still in the original packaging... she was discussing having friends over for a party... and I commented they were "more banned than the AK" and the combo of the two is pretty much guaranteed to make a blissninny wet himself in fear...

BTW you CAN buy Jarts/Lawn Darts if you LOOK carefully (ain't the internet grand)

There is NO BAN on making your own lawn darts.

I founds a CASE of Israeli training grenades for Galil/AR 15 for $120...

Not quite what I had in mind, but it would work as a basis for making new lawn darts.

One of the cheap Ideas I had was running a ten penny nail through a shotgun shell, forming the "cup", the fins could be easily made from sheet styrene... they's need to be pretty sturdy to survive take off and landing... hula hoop/kiddie pool as a downrange target... maybe lawn gnomes...

Before you pull the trigger, remember to look at your friends and say the magic words, "Hold my beer, and watch this!"

Darwin waits ... :D

"...What about launching grenades or screwing on a blank adapter..." Grenade launchers don't have the muzzle plugged. The grenade is on the outside of the launcher not stuffed into the bore.
A BFA has a wee hole in it to allow the gasses to go through while holding some back to operate the action.

Let me be CLEAR... it was NEVER my intention to "stuff the bore" with anything... I have a 223 rifle with a 7.62 muzzle attachment which acts as expansion chamber.... the flash/blast from a 223 AK is impressive to say the least... so I know I have enough pressure to launch a dart... the blank doesn't even have to work the action. My initial thought was the 'loose fit' would work... but the cup-style launcher is likely best...

and remember I'm talking red-neck engineering here... I mean really any idiot could launch a 1 liter water bottle off the original muzzle nut... I want lawn darts.
