.223 good for human but not deer?

I think Leaky Waders and krochus both make some valid points. It all boils down to 'different strokes for different folks'. Personally, I'll stick with my .280 or .30-06, but if someone else chooses to hunt with a .223 knock yourself out. The good thing is that everyone who has posted here seems to agree that the smaller round definately has it's limitations. If you can be disciplined enough to stay within those you will be fine. I just know what my own limitations are and I prefer a little larger round. I even feel the same way about the .243 Win. I know it's a good whitetail cartridge, but I choose to have a little extra. I'm sure the power is not wasted. With all that being said, if all I had at my disposal was a .243 or .223, I'd be in the woods with them.

Wow. It never ends. I got blasted for using 7.62x39 hollow points from 60 yards. Here folks are being insulted for daring to use .223. I've often wondered if the internet draws more people who are rude and combative, or if the safety of long distance comms just makes more people behave badly, knowing there are no consequences for their childish insults and passive-aggressive behavior.

I say use what you can send down range effectively within your limits. Or don't. We can agree to disagree. We're all on the same side and need to be tighter than ever before for what's likely coming down the road.
