so i've been running a lot of these bulk packs through my .22lr pistol/rifle, and on a couple (maybe 4 or 5) of rounds, i get not a BANG!, but a THZZZIP!

i noticed last time that i could see burning particles exiting on these 'thzzippy' rounds, and they werent following the point of aim. they'd arc out to the left.

at first i started thinking it was squibs, but the barrel wasnt obstructed.

whoops, forgot, this last time it was happening in my ruger mk 2. its also happened on an old marlin .22 rifle once or twice. the noise difference is quite noticeable. and the last range session (last night) was in low-light, so i could see the difference in muzzle flash as well.

anyone have any ideas what i've encountered? its happened on two different bulk packs now.

I have not had that problem. I really like the Remington Golden Bullet value packs. They're cheap and for some reason they're loaded a tiny bit hotter than the Federal/Winchester equivalent even though the specs show the same. They have a decent hollowpoint on them as well. I do get a high amount of duds with them though, maybe ten or more per pack on average.

I just finished up a box of those at the range today. At Wal-Mart, they are the same price as the Federal value pack. I had a couple of dud rounds, more so I think than the Federal. The golden bullets also shoot a bit more dirty in my opinion. Never had any 'thzzippy' rounds yet though.

Golden Bullet Bulk Pack

I just seem to get more duds or ones that take two trigger pulls to go bang! than the Federal equivalent.

Maybe they just don't like my 87 Cheetah. I'm into my second Remington bulk pack and figure I might go back to Federal for awhile. I agree with the posts above that they seem a little on the dirty side.

Price sure is right though! :D

I've had very few problems with them - in fact, they are my preferred .22 practice rounds. An occasional dud (maybe 0.2%). But they shoot straight - and function well in both my Auto & Revolver.

All .22's are "dirty". A wipe down & maybe a dry barrel/cylinder brush after 400 rounds or so should fix any problems. I typically shoot 200 to 300 rounds at a time through each of my .22 handguns. $9.00 for 525 rounds - that's lot of bang for the buck. My trigger finger wears out before I run out of ammo at that price.

The golden bullets are really dirty and i have some ones that are real weak then the real zippy ones your talking about they feel like there loaded pretty hot when you het them due to recoil and incresed muzzle blast and pretty decent flame out the muzzle

I usually stick to federals now but no one has had them lately

Remington ammo is CRAP across the board. The ONLY ammo they make worth shooting is the STS line of shotshells. Everything else is cut-rate cheap garbage, ESPECIALLY the 22 shells. Even the cartridge brass they make now is not worth reloading. It really is a shame too, they used to make some of the better ammo available.
