.22LR rifles with standard aperture sights?

After the feedback on my earlier post on a "Rugged, reliable, lightweight .22LR survival rifle" I have started looking around for a new .22 to add to my collection. While I am tempted to get a Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60 and add a set of Tech Sights, what I would really like is a nice, lightweight .22 that already has a decent aperture (peep) sight installed. So, leaving out the full-on target rifles, can anyone suggest a general-purpose new .22 or a common second-hand one that comes standard with a peep sight? Oh, and please also leave out the AR-7 as I am looking for something a little more solid, both physically and in terms of reliability, than that one. Thanks!

Older Mossberg, Marlin or Remington bolt actions often came with peep sights and are sturdy, reliable rifles.

Most of the 22 rifles made today do not offer military style "tech sights". You will find them on the AR styled 22 rifles which run in the $500 price range. I have an old Mauser 22 trainer (40's vintage) that has sights like this.

I have the savage mk II FVT and the sights are great. There are 10 front inserts and the rear adjusts crisply and accurately. It shoots fantastic for the price. It would be my suggestion for your requirements. There are aftermarket add on apperture sights for the CZ line as well which you may want to look at
As well though they cost a little more in the end than the savage.

You might look around for a used Marlin 99 M1. It's a variant of the basic Marlin 60 type gun, made to vaguely resemble an M1 Carbine. It has an 18" barrel, an aperture sight that looks like a Williams Guide type, and a short magazine tube that just protrudes from the forearm enough to grasp. There was also a box magazine version, the 989 M2. The original Browning T-bolt also had an aperture, but they are priced as collector's items these days.

If you decide to go the 10/22 route, I would suggest that you take a look at the XS aperture sights. I have a set on one of mine, and am very happy. They aren't easy to adjust like the Tech Sights, but are rock solid once set.

I also have a Savage Mark II FVT, and I love it. The sights are indeed very nice.

My only complaint is that the stock is way too low to achieve a cheek-weld, which required me to tape a 2"-thick paperback book to the comb. Problem solved.

I think there are after market "military style" adjustabe rear sights for 10-22's, as another option. Brownell's use to have some. I just googled and Tech-Sights has a nice looking one.

I like the XS brand of sights if you are looking for fast pointing sights.

I had a Marlin 80DL bolt action .22 which came with peep sights. Several other variations on that model.

I'm aware that in your post you specified that the rifle had to come from the factory with peep sights, but I can't think of any that would fit your other requirements.

How about a CZ 452 Lux like this one. It's solid and as accurate as anyone would ever need.
