I have a question about a 30-06 I own. The gun was put together by my uncle before he got older. The receiver is stamped interarms 30-06 mark x. Anything special I should know about it?

The Interarms Mark X was a common Mauser style action that was popular for custom built rifles. Do you have any idea who made the barrel?

How does it shoot?

Here is an owners manual. They are solid dependable rifles. As stated they are often used as the basis for custom rifles. They used to just sell the actions where buyers could put the barrel and stock of their choice on them. From your post it sounds like this may be a custom. They also make them in complete rifles and they have been imported under several names over the years.

Parker Hale, Charles Daly and most recently they were sold under the Remington 798 name

I have a custom put together on an Interarms action in 338-06

Gun shoots great. No idea about the barrel. I'll check it out when I get home. emu2ubut.jpg this is the only picture I had on my phone.

should be a standard Mauser K98 action made by Zastava in old Yugoslavia. My buddy has two and I have one years ago.

if you look at issues of Field and Stream from the 1960s etc you will see a lot of Interams rifles in adds with low prices (for the day). A guy could buy a new Winchester 70 or Remington in 30-06 for $100 or an imported Interarms for $50.

The reason you see Interarms actions on a lot of custom rifles is because it is a mauser action, and a custom rifle maker would get ahold of the cheapest mauser rifle he could find just for the action. No different than a guy who wants a custom rifle today looking for a used beat up Remington 700 just for the action.

Especially on the earlier imported versions the stocks were often cheap or were more european in shape (or both) so a lot of guys would buy the rifle for $50 and a nice replacement stock for $10.

That's the best picture I could get with the phone. This has been my first year hunting since I was 8. Got into fishing instead of hunting. Had the urge to get into it this year.

Dropped my first one this morning at 930. It was a doe and she jumped in their air and fell flat on her neck. After that my buddy showed me how to gut her and then I took her to my dads and he showed me how to skin her. Way more of a rush then catching fish! Sitting still for a couple hours was a nice peaceful change as well.

Thanks for all the info on my 30-06. I just wish my uncle was still in West Virginia so I could have shared the moment.

As stated, the Mark X is a European commercially manufactured Mauser 98 style action. They were available as bare actions, barrelled actions and several grades of complete rifles. Yours has "proof" marks on the barrel which indicates it was sold as a barrelled action or complete rifle. A "built" rifle might have the caliber and maker stamped somewhere, but wouldn't have proof marks unless it was custom built at a major maker.
I've had a few over the years and have shot several. They are rock solid, capable of excellent accuracy, and all repair parts are still available, should you ever need them.

Congrats on a family treasure.
