.308 Savage - Short chamber

After reading many threads on loading to the lands, and how far off to load, I decided to check my Savage. I fired some Federal Gold Metal Match 168gr SMK, and was very pleased with the accuracy. The OAL was 2.808 on the factory cartridge, so thats were I loaded my 168gr SMK bullets to. Well, after checking my rifle, looks like I only had .005" to spare. Seems like a very short chamber at 2.813, with this bullet, maybe thats why they shoot so good in this Savage. Havent had a chance to shoot my reloads, but it put the Fed Match into 1 hole at 50, and 100yrds, with 3 shooters. Very good ammo, and I must say, I'm liking the Savage 10FP, too:D

Loading to the lands

Wish I could undersand how to do this. I know that somewhere in the bowls of this forum there are many threads on how to do it.

Wish I were good enough searcher to find it.

Lets get some fresh posts about it. I would love to learn how. Been loading for many years for pistol only. Just reacently getting into rifles.

Lets go!

That's one real nice thing about Savages. I load mine to 2.810 oal. This actually varies as I measure from the ogive( forget what that measurement is) I can actually load rounds to seat right at the lands or even into them and still have them fit in the mag.
