Using a plated bullet, any ill effects?

Searching, I've seen a lot of info that said no big deal.

Anyone have any first hand experience with it.
Berrys has a 356 dia bullet for the 357Sig (355 dia)
I've seen 355, 356 and 357 all for the same application

Thanks

Plated bullets have really soft lead cores so I doubt you'd have any ill effects coming from .0015"over sized.

Two thousands, I don't know. If it were just a soft lead bullet without plating, I wouldn't even think twice about it. Some brands of plated bullets have up to .015" of plating on them and some only have .005" so for me it would matter as to which company made the bullet before I would make the decision on using plated bullets .002" larger than actual size.

That's just my opinion.

.357" in a .355" barrel?

No problem, much, if you can get the loaded round to chamber?

Some won't in some chambers.

Thinking of X-Treme bullets, little thicker plating than Berry's.
I could put them through a 356 bullet sizing die, but was hoping to skip that step
and just load them.

Extreme and Speer Gold Dot bullets have the heaviest plating, you won't blow up your gun but don't load maximum loads either with out working up to them.
The heavier plating means more resistance so you know the pressure will be higher with them before you even start, something you'll need to keep in mind. I believe I'd load some pretty light and see how it goes.

The riflings may cut the plating up and expose the lead defeating the purpose of the plating. A Lee resizer is only $20.00, it may end up being a good purchase.

9mm type barrels have varied up and down in diameter, with no ill results reported. Accuracy may be the deciding factor, but at 7yd, it takes a real problem to become significant. 357 diameter bullets have been used by lots of folksat some time or other with no ill effects. As mentioned don't start with or use max loads. Start at low end and work to accuracy. And see if the loaded rounds do the plunk test. That would be the deal breaker. 357 bullets in my 9mm don't chamber easily so I don't use hem.

I just loaded up some .357 hollow points for a 9mm a few days ago. Ran em through a Lee sizer real easy.
