1 Killed In Shooting At Calif Denny's- 3rd Death This Wk

ANAHEIM, Calif. -AP---A gunman opened fire early Friday at a Denny's -DENN- restaurant, killing one man and seriously wounding another, police said.

It was the third fatal shooting at the restaurant chain in Southern California this week.

The 2:45 a.m. local time shooting happened after a fight between two large groups inside the restaurant, said Sgt. Rick Martinez of the Anaheim Police Department.

One victim re-entered the restaurant after being shot and died inside, Martinez said. The other victim was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive.

The gunman was being sought by authorities. The shooting did not appear to be gang-related, Martinez said.

The shooting was the third in a Southern California Denny's in three days. In Pismo Beach on Wednesday, a transient with two guns walked into the restaurant at lunchtime, fatally shot two men and wounded a married couple before committing suicide.

And in Ontario, a 37-year-old man was fatally shot in a Denny's parking lot Thursday after a fight. The gunman was still being sought.

What is up with all these Denny's shootings? Related?

In all these cases, I'll be there were more than a few wishing they had CCW. Betting that the media and politicians in CA will turn this into another excuse for more gun control laws:fire:

D@mn.... I'm going back to Luby's.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they are open 24hrs and usually
have a lot of people in them at any given time.

It only gives the time of one of the shootings. I would like to know when the
other two were.

only so many times you can hear "rooty tooty fresh and fruity" before you just... *snap* oh, wait, that's IHOP.

seriously, i can't remember the last time there was a denny's shooting in the phoenix area. matter of fact, i can't recall a single instance of a public rage style random shooting in the entire state of arizona during all the years i've lived in the state. i could be mistaken but i just can't recall such an instance. the neighboring state of california has had at least a dozen such cases in that period of time. hmmmmm.

This makes the case for my long standing belief that should be a national registration of Dennys. If Dennys were registered and there were at least some controls on them and things like this wouldn't happen.

denny's has a history of racial segegration.. and bad food.
so maybe its a target?

true story..
i was in oregon once eating some bad food, and 2 black guys came in. waited in front to be serviced, but no one serviced them even after about 7 minutes or so. (i had been serviced in about 15 seconds), so they proceeded to a table that looked prepared, ask the waiter, but the waiter seriously ignored them. these werent gang randbow colored teens, just honest looking profesionals that were black.. anyway, so they left after about 15 minutes.

that was the first time i never tipped a resturaunt.

anyway, doesn't really relate to the story. but kinda relating it to be a bad overall place..

I live about 35 miles from the pismo beach dennys where the shooting happened. According to the "News" here the perp came in with two handguns and the first vic. who was 76 years olds came up to him to try to stop him?... and then was shot 5 times, then the perp started to ramdomly shooting hitting four others, one who died, then blew his head off. If Ca. had had open CCL things like this would not be happening. It's sad when you can not go out in small town to lunch and not have to worry about your life and those around you or have the chance to defend yourself or others in a Legal fashion.

Yep. Denny's and Wal-Mart parking lots.

Denny's is often the only place open in town when the bars close. It (and its parking lot) becomes a de facto after-hours club.

I thought the dims passed laws against....

this? How rude of those perps violating the law like that and having guns blamed for their plight as they were abused as children and lead astray during the Regan years in Ka.....BTW, Denny's pancakes are better than IHOPs.....chris3

Doesn't California have laws against sort of thing? Criminals need to turn their guns in and stop breaking the laws like the gun control folks tell them. What kind of world are we living in when even the criminals won't play by the rules. :banghead:

Its a result of moral demise in general in SoCal. It still
has a lot of good folks, but those few who mess it up
with moronic and deadly stunts like this make it bad
for everyone. I was hatched in SF & have lived here
most of my life and have seen just what a sorry state
much of Corrupfornia has turned into. Criminals know
they'll walk after just a short stint. Many Judges are
too scared or liberal to put the hammer to the perp,
and many times a plea bargain takes place with just
a slap on the hands being the result.

After all we have more sitting on DR than any other
state in the Nation. Over 660. Be interesting to see
serious TX justice come to Ca. But then that would
show common sense..Not gonna happen here.

Just going to be more victims, and the state could care
less in many instances. :(

...Just posted this on the "Gunman Opens Fire in Denny's" AOL message board, along with a link to the Suzanna Gratia Hupp story...

[[ I have held a concealed carry permit for a handgun since 1994. In the last fifteen years the number of firearms legally owned and carried have increased in my county and state, and yet the total crime rate is currently half what it was in 1991. The murder rate for the state is also half what it was in 1991. The murder rate in my county still zero. You have to go back to 1994 to find a murder. My county is home to many gun-owners, hunters, and concealed carry permit holders. Where is the carnage that was predicted by anti-gun groups that supposedly would result from increased gun ownership and concealed carry? Where are the "legal murders" that were predicted as the result of "castle" and "stand your ground" self-defense laws?

And yet... Every time there is a high-profile crime involving a gun somewhere else, some people will insist that further firearm restrictions should be placed on me, even though me and my neighbors are not the ones causing the problems. ]]

A Daughter's Regret

Suzanna Gratia Hupp will live the rest of her life with regret. Had she been carrying her gun the day a madman executed her parents while she cowered helplessly and then fled, she is convinced she could have stopped one of the worst massacres in U.S. history...

I think Denny's is going to need to change their slogan from "Denny's...Where the drunk go to eat" to "Denny's...home of the duck & cover burger".

The best way to solve this problem is start putting donut shops next to every Denny's. :neener:
