Test Gun SA XD Service model 4" barrel, with xs big dot night sights.
Parameters I loaded 20rounds of each load to test primarily for reliability first and foremost, shoot ability and accuracy. i shot 2-5rd groups at 7yds for accuracy with a good two hand thumbs forward grip. I proceeded to shoot 5 rds weak and 5 rds strong handed to check muzzle flip and controllability using weak and strong hands only.

Test ammo was 155gr, and 165gr speer gold dots.

Loads

1) 155gr speer gold dot, w/ 7.0gr unique, OAL 1.120", winchester primers
Notes: exceptional accuracy best of the 155gr loads, easy to shoot, minimal muzzle flip, 100% reliable.

2) 155gr Speer gold dot, w/ 7.5gr unique, OAL 1.120", winchester primers
Notes: good accuracy, controllable, with minimal muzzle flip, 100% reliable. when shooting, has about the same, report, muzzle flip etc of a factory wwb load.

3) 155gr speer gold dot, w/ 8.0gr of power pistol, OAL 1.123", wolf primers.
Notes: All i can say about this load is it is a hot one, and it is like a mini flash bang going off, the scary part is that that isn't even the max load. Large frame from barrel, substantial muzzle flip, manageable 2 hand and strong hand only for me personally, but i will admit that weak hand was no fun, and i felt it after 5rds. If there was a such thing as +p ammo in a .40 this would probably be close to it. If you use this load i recommend you do it outdoors, and that you don't shoot that many, i am sure that over 50-100rds it will cause fatigue. However it was 100% reliable.

4) 165gr speer gold dot, w/ 7.0gr power pistol, OAL 1.123", Wolf primers
Notes: accurate 5 rd groups, cut one nice less that 1" hole. 100% reliable, easy to shoot, minimal recoil, even during rapid fire.

5) 165gr speer gold dot, w/ 7.4gr power pistol, OAL 1.123", wolf primers.
Notes: great accuracy, weak/ strong hand easy to manage, 100% reliable, of the 165gr this load is the best for me personally as it meets all of my requirements the best.

6) 165gr speer gold dot, w/ 7.7gr power pistol, OAL 1.123", wolf primers.
Notes: the most accurate of the 165gr loads, hot load, large flame from barrel, strong hand manageable, and yielded same accuracy results as with a 2 hand grip. weak hand was uncomfortable to shoot. 100% reliable.

Conclusion

All loads fired w/o missing a beat and thought there were only 20rds of each load fired i have full confidence in them being reliable, and the loads that i have chosen to keep will be test further, and in more depth.

all the loads were plenty accurate for defensive work.

I will be using loads, #2, and #5 for sd/hd/ carry ammo, they are the ones that i have decided to keep as they closest match my needs, and parameters.

Just out of curiosity have you tried AA#5 or # 7 with those yet?

I use #7 and #9 in my 10mm with the 180gr GD and it shoots awesome out to 50yds, and has take a few feral hogs as well. Those GD's seem to be great bullets for auto's, I have never had an issue with one not feeding reliably in a several calibers and pistols.

Sounds like your on the right track for sure.

AA#7 is also what I use for 10mm. Should work well for 40 cal too

If you have any Universal Clays, I would love a report on it and those 165 Gr Gold Dots. :)
