Thanks 41Mag for the 2400 information. Its a great powder for moderate to higher loads in the .44

As to the lead exposure issue - lead even in low level exposure over periods of time do build up and is difficult to reduce. Always a good idea to take some care. Here is a link to the CDC Adult Blood Lead Epidemiology and Surveillance program:

Just to expand a little on what rcmodel said, lead only causes problems for human beings when it is ingested. If you don't plan on eating any bullets, you'll be fine.

I had my blood work test for lead and it was at nine. I have not loaded any cast bullets for at least six months prior to the blood test, don't know if it will be different if I do load cast bullets real close to it.

My Doc says you will absorb lead through the skin.

He has medical training. Anyone here also qualified to give medical advice?

Sorry, but I don't know the exact source.
My doc wanted me to quit reloading & shooting altogether.

I told him flat out NO!
So I acquiesced in that I promised not load or shoot exposed lead bullets.

Over a 6 week period I got my lead level down from 29 to 23.
I won't have it checked again til my 6 month check up in late Jan/early Feb.

If it's still at 23 or higher, then I know that the lead bullets are far from the main culprit.

Another good bulky powder is Alliant Green Dot. It's a tad slower than Bullseye & has roughly twice the bulk.

I put 4gr in a .357 Magnum case & seat a 158gr LSWC to just past the crimp groove with a light taper crimp.

FWIW I wear nitrile gloves from Walmart when loading, whether cast or jacketed. Good grip on slick brass & moly coated boolits.
