I keep reading articles about the new Govenor and how it can shoot .410, 45 Colt and 45ACP. In the Gunblast review of it Jeff even mentioned that it could shoot 45GAP but I keep wondering why no one mentions 45 Auto Rim. Isn't that why the 45AR was created in the first place, to be able to shoot Colt and S&W model 1917s with needing moon clips? If this is the case you should be able to use them in the Govenor shouldn't you?

No! The .45 AR round was made to be used in a .45 ACP cylindered-only revolver. The Governor is like a .45 Colt cylindered revolver adapted for .45 ACP moonclip use. It has a vestigal ring at the outter circumference to catch the rim of .45 Colts, .410's, etc for proper headspacing. The area where the moonclips reside is milled away. The thick rim of the .45 AR round catches on that ring, too - and the thicker rimmed cartridge won't permit the cylinder to close... sorry! Hey - another round it will happily take is the .45 Schofield, although it's a bit difficult to find.

It was just something I was wondering, I did know it would take the Schofield but didn't the AR. Would like to have one those revolvers but they are a bit out of my price range right at the moment

I just got a chance to handle a Governor. Light weight (scandium alloy frame with titanium pins), tritium front sight, available CT laser grip, ability to use .45ACP in clips (2-shot, half- and full-moon)...

I can understand someone not liking the concept of a handgun shooting .410. But if you accept the concept for whatever application, this is a well thought-out gun.

Perhaps because the Governor looks somewhat ungainly with its extended cylinder, there is a tendency to view it as a cumbersome and disproportionate handgun. But I find that it balances surprisingly nicely in the hand...
