Fella's;

I've had a 1911 pattern .45 for some few years now. Shoot it & enjoy it & have had no problems with it. However, I recently got a rimfire conversion for it & the shop threw in a pack of recoil buffers.

The gun has a full-length spring guide, if that makes any difference. My question is: Where does the buffer go? I'd really like a complete answer here please. I understand that it fits on the guide, but between the spring and the guide? Between the guide & the barrel link?

I'm looking at this little plastic doohickey & thinking, well if I put it between the spring & the guide, it's gonna pre-load the spring & take available space away. But if it goes between the guide & the link, what keeps it in place?

I'm not shooting hot loads, mostly Winchester white box. So I doubt I really seriously need this thing in my gun. But now my inquiring mind won't turn loose of the question.

Thanks, 900F

Yes, between the spring and the guide, and as you already noted, it will take a little space away. Some guns won't lock open when empty when using a shok buff. And you'll want to keep an eye on it. Leave it in too long and it will "come apart" and cause problems. Personally, I tried them years back and found the disadvantages outweighed any use they had. You'll have to decide that for yourself. Good luck.

Make sure you compress the guide rod plug with the buffer installed so you can see if the coils start to bind and stack. Some springs come a bit long (ISMI)
