A few years back I decided to get a revolver for hunting. Some of my buds had 45 colt long, one had a 30/30 and another had a 45/70 yes all were revolvers. Surprisingly, the 45-colt long had a little more recoil than the 45/70 and the 30/30 was snappy too. So, I was on the hunt actually looking for a 45 colt long or a 44 magnum. I was at my local dealer, and he had a .500 S&W magnum BFR revolver with a 7.5" barrel. He had it for 1,100 bucks. I took a look at it and decided not to purchase it and keep looking. A month earlier I had entered a drawing and paid 10 bucks online for a chance to win a revolver of any that were in stock of my choice. Well, a week later after leaving the dealer I received an email that I had one first place. They provided me a list of about 50 different revolvers and yes, one was a .500 S&W BFR. So not to displace karma I chose the BFR. Then sent it to my dealer foe the transfer. When it came in my dealer gave me a call. When I showed up to complete the transaction, he told me he could have beaten their price. I laughed and said it was free all I had to do is pay shipping. So I will take the one in the case too for the shipping cost. Needless to say, the dealer did not bite. I shoot it at least once a month and reload so I do not have to pay 60 bucks a box for 20 rounds. I recently loaded up some .500 specials and the recoil were about the same as a 44 magnum. With a steady stick I can reach out easily to 75-100 yards with 6-inch groups. Yes, it is a hand full but like everything practice makes things easier. I made a western rig holster setup with cartridge belt along with a shoulder rig for hunting.

Some people have all the luck with those raffles. I could buy half the tickets and still
lose.

I had a friend who won 3 out of 10 of those raffles.
I am a raffle donor, too, my ticket money seems to just to fund the raffle

Well, I guess did “win” one raffle once. I won a first-gen Gibson exhaust for my long-gone 2005 Yamaha Rhino 660.

I put it on easy enough. Sadly, the new exhaust snapped the exhaust flange bolts within the first 25 miles, and about every 25 miles thereafter. It never did run right after that. :(

Stay safe.

I've reached the age where hard recoil and I don't get along. I've loaded my .44 Mags down to the 1100-1200'sec range, and they aren't too bad, even in a Mountain Gun. But I don't stand there, burning 50 rounds.
I've taken 3 deer with full house .44 loads, and seen pictures of a crazy Norwegian killing a polar bear with a Mountain Gun. Forty four is plenty for me, but YMMV. :)

Congratulations!
Very nice revolver. I am also one that can’t or shouldn’t take that kind of recoil any longer, but I live vicariously through others that can. ;)

Also, congratulations on winning that revolver. For decades I have doled out money in raffles and benefits only to watch others win time and time again... Until 3 months ago. I actually won a Franchi Affinity 3 shotgun. Honestly, I wouldn’t have purchased one but now that I own one I really like it.
I hope you enjoy your win too. :)

I keep thinking about what sort of life changes I would need to make to get this level of good Karma. I think I'm going to just keep being a jerk and have to pay full price for my guns

Lol. That's hilarious.

Good deal for the OP. Reloading is a must with these big cartridges.

For the longest time, I felt I had no need for a 44 Magnum, then I stumbled into a new S&W 460 XVR at a deep discount. I bit.

Recoil is not too bad because of the weight of the gun. But I do have a low power load for plinking fun.

Like others, I have poor luck at raffles, pools, and such. I do support raffles from organizations that friends belong to and I figure its a donation. I win once in a blue moon but never anything fun like a firearm.

My last “win” was at the 2021 Sports Car Club of America’s National Championship races. I won a tank full of Sunoco 260 race gas for my class qualifying time was the closest to decimal 260. Each class had a winner as well. They call the contest “260 Tuesday”.
