I have been wanting to try out some 150gr 7.62x39 loads in my AK. I couldnt find any data for IMR4227 (cause that what I have) so I used the data for 123gr and backed way off. I loaded 10 with 20.5 grains (I load 24.5 for 123gr.) and I just wanted to know if you guys think that is safe.
Thanks,
Jason

IMR4227 appears a little too fast burning for best velocity.

Yea, I figured that out pretty quickly and swithed to AA1680 which is great...but I had half a pound of 4227 left over that I have been trying to use up.

With faster powders, you do not go up in bullet weight as that only exacerbates the situation.
Maybe you can get a box of plated .311-.312 pistol bullets at 85-100gr weight and make some good plinking loads with the 4227. They are not that expensive and would be a better match to the 4227.
Just a thought.

VV N120... 20 gr - 23.5 grs is what people seem to be using in France. 150 gr Privi FMJ .311

At 20.5gr of IMR4227 you are close to max. Predicted pressure is 44.5K psi according to QL. I would back future loads out by .5 gr.
