I just bought my first shotgun for HD and I'm quite confused about how exactly to go about mounting a light using a bracket (I do not want to replace the foreend). I've done some searches and still don't see which adapters fit which lights.

How have you mounted your surefire/pelican hand held flashlights, or streamlight TLR-1/2 on your 870? The TLR adapter seems cheezy. Exactly what adapters did you use? How did they fit, and are you happy with the set up? Have you actually tried firing with your light?

Thanks!

I much prefer using a purpose made, shock-isolated weapon light on a shotgun due to the pounding of recoil when it is in use. And I also much prefer LED weaponlights, since they have become available. It's good to be able to remove the entire unit easily when it isn't needed for practice/training IMHO, to spare it unnecessary pounding.

The most used adapter here is Streamlight's 69906, which attaches under the magazine cap. The short rail section has 'shoulders' which keep the light from being pushed off the back of the rail. It might look insubstantial, but it is very sturdy. See http://www.opticsplanet.net/streamlight-rem-870-tactical-mount-69906.html .

If your 870 has a magazine extension, look at the 69901 - http://www.opticsplanet.net/streamlight-12ga-extended-mag-tube-tactical-mount-69901.html .

I've used both these mounts since they were first released, and have been well satisfied with them. I have also been a satisfied Optics Planet customer for several years now- no financial interest, just a customer.

I have been intrigued by the products at http://www.candewman.com/default.html , but I haven't seen any of them in the wild yet.

There are lots more options, keep looking if you don't like these...

Here are a couple of options for you. In the center is the TLR-1. It is very close to the barrel and mag tube and the switch can be reached easily from the forearm. The other two mount 1" lights with either a tail cap switch or a tape switch that can be attached to the forearm. The one on the right also mounts a 3/4" beamshot laser. They are also about half the size and weight of similar mounts.

I've got http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5819 , and havent looked back. For 5.22 I gave it a try and havent been disappointed. Just be prepared for the long wait, DealExtreme has horrible ship time (3 weeks for this one here).

I have mounted a 1" Bodied MG PLI (400+ OTF Lumens) forward tail clicky. Its surprisingly fast and easy to press the button with my forend hand. I've got it mounted to the barrel and tilted to a position much like the above picture.
