9X18 Makarov

Crappy ones ... :neener:

Sorry -- I'm only half kidding. My understanding is that Makarov magazines are 100% interchangeable. I'm talking about true Makarovs, not other pistols in 9x18 caliber, like the CZ-82, Radom P64, or FEG PA-63.

I have purchased aftermarket mags for my Bulgarian, and nowhere did it specify which Maks they will work in. My assumption is that they will work in Bulgarians, E. Germans, and Russians. (Am I leaving any out?)

Somebody will probably come along soon and say I'm wrong. Then we'll all learn something.

EDIT TO ADD: Almost forgot -- I think the Russians made some commercial Makarovs in .380. I don't know if those magazines would fit a 9x18. It's possible that they would: CZ-82 (9x18) and CZ-83 (.380) magazines, for example, are virtually interchangeable. The feed lips might have to be tweaked a bit, but the other dimensions are the same.

There were some Russian Maks made to accept 10 or 12 round double stack mags, those will not fit the standard single stack guns and vice versa.

All of the .380 Makarovs I have seen use the same mags as the 9x18 version. My boss at work owned both 9x18 and .380 Maks and he interchanged mags between them all the time with no problems.

When I bought my Mak extra mags were a dime a dozen, so I accumulated 5 or 6 of them. Now they seem to cost a bit more.

Except for the few Russian commercial double stack, hicaps that made it here before the ban, all PM Makarov mags are interchangeable, even the single stack ones shipped with .380 Russian commercial Makarovs.

Russian, E. German, Bulgarian, and Chinese will interchange.

Montana: The single stack Makarov magazines will also work in the High Cap Maks. The high cap magazines neck up to single stack. It's weird I know, but they do work. I know this because I have both a single stack and a double stack Makarov.

Bulgarian Makarov

:D I received my Bulgarian Makarov yesterday from Cheaper Than Dirt. They stated that it was in Good Condition and it was. It had some holster wear but not to much.I cleaned it and then fired 24 rds thru it and it shoots like a dream.I'm really happy with it and it's a pleasure to shoot.

Makarov Magazines

:banghead:I sure wish I could find good magazines for my Mak for less than $29.00. I located a aftermarket mag for $17.95 but I don't know if they are worth a hoot!

Makarov magazines

:mad:I ordered 2 magazines from Keepshooting.com after they arrived I loaded them with 8rds and they would not release the round from the mag. I would pull the slide back as far as it would go and release it the slide would not strip the round from the mag. The spring in the mag I believe to strong. You really have to press as hard as you can to get the 8th round to go. I called Keepshooting and they advised me to keep them loaded for a while I did no change. I sent them back.

Weird, I ordered two mags from Keepshooting.com and they both worked flawlessly in my IJ-70. I'm sorry you didn't have the same experience.

I recall seeing an add in ShotGun news back in the day. Chinese Makarov mags $1.00 ea if you bought 100 of them. I wish I had had the foresight to buy a couple of thousand of them..
