Busse Combat Knives has a new knife available exclusively at the Busse Company Store. It's the SAR-4, which stands for Search and Rescue 4 inch knife. It's actually a 4 7/8" blade which is .220 thick at the ricasso with a micarta handle in a pattern Busse calls Tigerhide. Busse makes some of the best knives I've seen, I ordered 3 of these tonight as soon as they became available. I can't wait until they get here.

The picture was taken by one of the guys who has one already.

I know they're expensive, but this is the Limited Edition. If Busse does what they normally do there'll possibly be a Combat Grade later which will be less expensive. I've become an Infi addict, it's really a great steel. If there's a better choice for knife steel out there, I haven't seen it.

To me this knife seems almost perfect as a user. It's small enough to be comfortable to use on game but it's big and tough enough to be able to depend on to do serious work. Of course it won't chop like the big knives, but I can't wait to get one and put it through some paces.

Just a 'first blush' impression from looking at Mr. Busse's web site, it does seem that Busse is concerned with holster/sheath/carry systems as well as the blade.

That makes sense.

A msg/e-mail will follow to the kydex sheath guy.

Thanks for the Busse information.

Looks like a well-designed knife. Busse ain't cheap, but I have a lot of respect for Jerry.

WOW!!! I didn't get it, I just went and checked my spam folder, for some reason your last email to me went in there. I just saw them. They look GREAT!

For those of you who haven't seen it, Rupestris is doing a HUGE favor for me and helping me with a Nessmuk knife project. Here's a link to the thread.

With some of the early Busse knives Jerry included a sheath of one kind or another. The sheaths were invariably less quality than the knives, and they often weren't the kind of sheath the owner wanted. Jerry decided the best thing to do was to sell just the knife and provide links to top quality sheath makers. It saves money and alllows the user to choose the type of sheath system they want. He has links (or email addresses) to guys like:

Kydex:

Mashed Cat
Okuden
Buy Brown
On/Scene Tactical

Leather

Armorall Leather
Rowe's Leather
Mike Bartol at Mt Mike's Leather Shop

Nylon with Kydex insert

Semper Paratus Tactical

I've been really impressed with the quality of the Mashed Cat, Okuden, and Armorall Leather things I've seen. Those are the only ones on that list I've handled, but they seem to be first rate.

I'll have more info on that knife in a day or two. I have to finish the other half of the pair before showing them to everyone. They belong to alaskanativeson and I don't want to spoil the surprise completely.

I've got the second one cut and partially ground but have a bit to go yet.

At the rate he is moving steel to Alaska, the lower 48 may see a shortage unseen since WWII. :p
