I just purchased a brand new titanium leek with serated. So far my impressions of it are very high. I am wondering though what uses/actions/materials will dull this out of the box razor sharp edge quicker than normal. Speaking of normal, what is the avrg time for a EDC knife to need a sharpening. Anything i should know about the leek ken onion assist knifes? like how to maintain the rock solid opening it has after 1 day of use. Thanks in advance for your help gents.

"Titanium"

Ti handle material. VG10 blade.

I didn't know any of the Ti Leeks were available yet. Cool.

We can't tell you how often you'll need to sharpen it since we don't know how you'll be using it. That said, VG10 holds an edge well and you won't have to sharpen it very often. Use a steel to keep the edge sharp and you'll have to sharpen it infrequently.

Link in the mechanism is the biggest culprit in screwing up assists. Try to keep it cleaned out with blasts of air and a drop of lube.

I don't think you need to worry about it maintaining its rock solid lock up. I have one that's been my EDC for over a year and it is still just as solid as the day I got it.

I love this little knife.

A lot less often than I have to sharpen my poor little Chive, which did not get the benefit of VG10. ;)

sorry guys, i may have misled you as to what knife i have. I have the " Kershaw Black Ti-Nitride 1/2 serrated Edge Leek Assisted Opening Knife Model 1660CKT"
And im wondering what ED tasks will dull it up and how often you sharpen your leek. Any quality, cheap sharpeners you all recommend?

Ahhh.

Not the new Ti Leek.:(

What's the blade steel on that critter?

Get a Spyderco "Sharpmaker" or the Gatco "Tristep" so you can handle the flat and serrated parts.

New Kershaw "Leek".......

I've been carrying a Leek 1660ST/stainless for over 3 years and loved it. I bought an inexpensive diamond folding "stone" to bring back the edge after 6 months of heavy use. Works every time. Then strop your knife on the face of an old leather belt; you'll be able to shave hair after a few licks.

These knives are superb, their steel is excellent. Mine finally would not fully open after about 25,000 openings and I considered putting it into a safe. Instead, I e-mailed Kershaw and they said please mail my knife to them.

I figured they would simply repair the knife..............I received a new Leek in less than 7 days. Excellent customer service and products.

Check out their new "Offset", Model 1597, a serious knife.

OK. A knife. I had this very strange image of a gleaming anodized vegetable. Thanks for the clarification.

If you like to clip the knife in your pocket:

Get a hold of a #6 TOR-X screwdriver, ($2.99 at Sears) and reverse the belt clip so that when you clip it, the narrow end of the handle is up and sticking out of your pocket. This way, when you take the knife from your pocket, it will naturally be in the right orientation for a quick and easy opening. With the way that they have the clip oriented from the factory, you will have to spin the knife around in your hand before opening. Luckily, Kershaw drills and taps a secondary set of holes on the narrow end of the knife to make this switchover easy.

IMHO, hands down the best thing you can do for the Leek. It easily doubles the value of the knife for me.
