A Ruger Mini

$750 retail in the Denver area, same as my NRA Mini.

I suppose price is dependent on many things, so what I have seen 'em go for isn't necessarily what the price is. What I was getting at was it's expensive for what it is, and still only mediocre at what it was designed for. SimpleIsGood229 knows what I'm talking about. Now an NRA mini, that I would invest in, if i had the spare cash. But seriously, the mini target version is not a bench rest rifle; at least not a good one (IMHO).

Back to the original question: My suggestion is to get a mini 14 or a mini 14 ranch rifle (if you're gonna use a scope). If you are like me and love a bargain, you'll try and find one for no more than $450. If you are wise in the way of the samurai, you will get a m1a AND a mini ;).

I may be using the term to broadly, I apologize. I was referring more to the word competition, as opposed benchrest. At the same time, it would seem that the mini14 target was designed for the bench shooter in mind, with the flat forearm, heavy barrel, barrel tuner, lack of sling swivels, such on and so forth. I dunno, you tell me.

There are actually two versions of the Mini 14 target model, one with a straight synthetic stock, (Hogue I think) that's the one I've seen for $750, and a fancy thumbhole stock version that probably sells for more.
