A very nice 8mm round

I have 2 yugo mausers, M48 & 24/47. The M48 is in like new condition and the 24/47 is beat up with a dark bore. With milsurp ammo both will shoot about 4-6 inche 5 shot group average at 100 yards, with a best group of 2 inches.

Playing around with the 8mm round I found that 38gr or IMR4895, 150 Sierra Pro Hunter, and CCI large rifle primer, I can get 5 shot groups at 1. 5 inch average. This is light recoil round and fun to shoot. I don't have a chrony but I figure that this round is about the equivelent to a 30-30. I'm loving the 8mm round.

I find the 196 gr S&B's over 41.5 gr of Tu 5000 fun to shoot.

I like Sierra or Hornady 150's over 49.0 grains of H4895 or 50.0 grains of IMR4064. Great shooting and pretty light recoil

I set up 10 rounds to test of 45 gr of IMR4895, but I haven't tried them yet.

I see that Sierra makes a match grade 200 grain bullet I think I might try.

I did some Sierra 150gr for my brother's 8x57.

Finding brass was a pain. I think I used Remington or Winchester. Norma stuff is expensive and hard to find.

I used Varget and CCI large rifle primers.

The 150gr bullets are great in 8x57.

Now he wants 125gr Hornadys, 170gr Sierra, and some 200gr and 220gr ones.

I have some RL15 I may use on the heavier ones. Hard to find load data too.

Just out of curiosity, is Tu 5000 the small stick Russian powder that was/is being sold in jugs as having a 4895 burning rate...?

I gave up looking for used 8mm and did not want to pay the price for new. I used commerical 30-06 brass and formed them. use for .211 gr cast bullet only at approx 21oofps 2inch groups 100 yards open sights
