Quite a while back I found the "MagLoader" speedloaders and wrote a review here. Eventually "Maximum 1" popped up and told me about the UpLULA loader. Well the MagLoader was working fine for me so I wasn't too interested at the time but just recently I actually saw someone using the UpLULA so I thought I'd give it a try.
The UpLULA loader is best photographed and described on their own web page here. The device is well constructed with a high impact plastic body and metal feed "beak", pins, and springs. While the "magloader" rings rely mainly on thumb strength to load a magazine, the UpLULA allows you to use your whole hand (and in fact relies on your ELBOW strength <grin>). The device is designed to adapt to a wide variety of magazine widths and in fact the only limitation to it's use really seems to be the width of magazine feed lips (too narrow and the "beak" won't fit in).
Initially the UpLULA was a bit awkward until I understood just what I was doing. Once I developed a "rhythm" I was astonished at just how fast I could load magazines. It really is as fast...or faster than the video they show on their webpage.
I use the UpLULA to load the following magazines with no trouble at all.
1911 (.45 ACP)
CZ-75B (.40 S&W)
SIG 229 (.40 S&W)
SIG 229 (9mm Luger)
Springfield XD-40 (.40 S&W)
Taurus PT-140 Mil Pro (.40 S&W)
I was also able to load the following magazines as long as I used a bit of "finesse". The issue was that the mag feed lips on the following are VERY narrow so I had to aim a bit more to make the "beak" fit into the magazine, otherwise it worked just fine and with a bit of practice I was able to load these magazines as fast as any others.
Bersa Thunder .380 Concealed Carry (.380 Auto)
CZ-52 (7.62x25 Tokarev)
CZ-82 (9x18 9mm Makarov)
Kel-Tec P-3AT (.380 Auto) -this one surprised me!
After this experience...Yes, I've gone out and bought my own.
If you load a lot of pistol magazines then do yourself a favor, go buy an UpLULA!
